Where can I get the Bilingual (Jap/Eng) release of Devilman?

It was released in 2002-2003 in Japan by Kodansha in an Bilingual version of both Japanese and English. Does anyone know where I might pick it up?

Here are the Japanese ISBN book no.'s :

Book 1 4770027850
Book 2 4770027869
Book 3 4770027877
Book 4 4770027885
Book 5 4770027893

I'd like to know this as well. They're out of print by a few years, and are pretty obscure releases, even within Kodanha's Bilingual line.

They're all on the amazon.co.jp marketplace at varying prices. And while it's mainly down to the individual seller, such dealers rarely sell their stuff abroad. I only know this because I've already tried this myself, lol. If you have a patient friend living in Japan you could try it, otherwise it's going to be tough.

Ebay's your best bet. I was lucky and managed to get volume 1, 2 and 5 about half a year ago. So while it's incomplete at least I could read the ending! :D I've since seen volume 1 for sale from one of the Japanese sellers, but it wasn't exactly cheap... good luck to both of us!

(if it helps I've attached a picture of what the bilingual editions look like, so at least you know they officially exist, lol)

Didn't realise they were out of print :(.

Thanks for the pictures of them as they maybe useful for me in future.

I assume each speech bubble in Bilingual version has both English and Japanese squeezed into it?

Just to let you know Vertical are interesting in creating an English version but for some reason Go Nagai and Dynamic Pro don't want give out the rights.

Seem strange as at one point Go Nagai was making a great push to bring Devilman Manga to the USA?

The English is in the bubbles, with the Japanese pushed to the edges of the page. It does mean most pages have a white border, but you get used to it. :) (Kinda like the side notes in School Rumble if you've read any of it)

Would love to see a full-blown release by Vertical. If anyone, they're the guys who'd do it justice. They're also not afraid to release a series that's more than 10 years old, lol. Wonder what's the hold up over in Japan then? We want it guys! ;_;

Many aspects of the Devilman OVAs run quite close to the manga. Hard to believe they played that on Channel 4 back in the day! XD

I don't get it either why Go Nagai not willing to sell the rights. As Go Nagai has made several big pushes to bring it over to the USA before, I guess he must have had some bad experience in dealing with the USA in the past and could not be bothered with dealing with the USA anymore. Still very strange.

Too bad they never finished the OVA as that would have been the definite version of Devilman more so than even the Manga. Have to say the main fight in the second OVA has to be one of the most brutal and savage fights ever in anime yet while being strangely beautiful at the same time.

Actually it might be because it's Kodansha that Vertical can't get rights.
They were atempting to publish titles themselves in English (e.g. GItS rerelease) and pulled everything they had with Tokyopop.
It's possible they want to handle it themselves, as it's a classic.

Even though Vertical mentioned is was something to do with Go Nagai and Dynamic Pro for why they can't get the rights. There's a very good chance that Kodansha is stumbling block in all this.

Kodansha do annoy me, when companies including themselves complain about free internet scans what do they do to help matter. Pulling all the titles from tokyopop so now the only way to read these titles is the illegal scans.

Got all but 1 of Get Backer Manga books from Tokyopop and with Kodansha putting no alternative my only choice to finish the story is illegal, its idiotic.

Honestly I have the whole set and I must say it was very expensive and wasn't easy to find. The best chances you have of getting the bilingual editions (like ushio said) is to try Amazon.co.jp! Thats where I got the whole set. I was actually lucky enough to get volume 2 from a japanese seller who shipped to America. Truth is most of them don't and this where it gets expensive. If the seller doesnt ship to america then you have to use a Japanese shipping service. This is the one I used http://www.rinkya.com/
I never had a problem with them. They buy the books for you and the n they ship it to you. The thins is you got to cover all the cost plus an extra service fee (or else they wouldn't make any money). This may draw you away but I must say if your a true devilman fan like me then getting these books is SO WORTH IT. I read the scans online and they do not do the original manga justice. Trust me when you see the actual manga on paper for the first time its just breathtaking especially if you love the old school anime art. Also the bilingual books were copied from japanese deluxe versions so it shows more of certain things. (depending on what scans you read online I don't want to spoil it for you)

I took some pictures of my volume 2 so you could what the actual manga looks like ( I dont think there are that much white borders) also these pics wont do it justice its just to show you.

The uber-literal sound-effect translations are great fun, lol. I thought the English was a little odd at times, but didn't affect the flow.

I got my 3 books on ebay from a European seller. I hear Yahoo.co.jp marketplace is perhaps a good source for finding stuff, but from my dabblings it's pretty impossible without the right language skills.

Thanks for the pictures AkiraFudo, much appreciated. The artwork does have certain amount more sharpness compared to the online scans from what I remember. But with it out of print, I would only get it now If I see the complete set going on ebay for a fair price. Sadly that look looks unlikely.

Just warning for everyone else the picture posted by AkiraFudo from devilman book 2 are quite violent and bloody so don't look it can't take it
:D

I have read the whole story but it was a while back.

Does anyone knowing what going on in the newer Amon: The Darkside of The Devilman Manga? Had only quick look of the raw scans but can barely make whats going on?

I have not read the amon manga. Im guessing it has something to do with the amon ova maybe? The reason I asked you if you read thewhole story is because wanted to post pics of the final battle because the scans online are slightly different. The bilingual books i have show a couple more pictures of the final battle making it better. Ill gladly post them if you want, but if you dont thats totally understandable.

The OVA is vagely based of the first Amon Manga series. The only thing they got in common is Amon taking over Akira Body. The second book is about the series orgins but after that it gets confusing when it brought back to the present day.

Actually would quite like to see the extra final battle pictures please. Don't think much wrong showing them as from out print book and it's only few pages.

Yea I just figured maybe you would wanna chance to get the set and see it for your self but yea Ill gladly post it.

Also this is another scene that Im pretty sure aren't in the scanlations bascially it shows Akira (SPOILER WARNING: TO ANY OF THOSE WHO HAVENT READ DONT PASS THIS)

berrying Miki's head in a deserted desert or plain area. He recollects moments of being and devilman and with being with miki and then ryo comes and they stare at each other and then part ways.
This happens right after this part

Well in the Bilingual version(and japanese deluxe editions) they show a bit more after that page
