what was your first 18 + anime & how did it effect you

Violence Jack is one of the most horrible, sadistic things I've ever seen. The version Manga released here was heavily cut by the BBFC and that was bad enough... why I then thought it would be a good idea to watch the uncut version I will never know. Mnemosyne is tame in comparison.

I still flat out refuse to watch Violence Jack. According to my battered old anime movie guide, Auntie Helen rates it (god knows why), but I've heard a fairly vivid description of what takes place in the series and I think that was enough for me. I like the theme tune though.

Finally remembered what the first 18 cert I saw was though - 3x3 Eyes. It was gory all right, but I think the story did a good job of justifying it, even if the ridiculous amount of physical punishment inflicted on Yakumo bordered on unintentional hilarity after a while. Annoyingly, I only ever managed to see the first oav and then the fifth one, but it's certainly stayed with me.

i bet theres a few people here that hates me for the Mention violence jack, then some peoples curiosity got the better of them lol sorry guys after you've seen it so many times it doesn't phase you and i first watched it when i was 14

My first would of been Legend of the Overfiend, when I was eight years old (my brother was a fantastic babysitter, his logic was probably "how bad could a cartoon be?) I then made a point of being illlogically scared of any cartoon that looked the remotest bit anime. Unless I had already seen it and knew it to be okay.

Thank god pokemon came along to help me get over that traumatic experience...

A side note is I watched Legend of the Overfiend again a few years back and have a completely different take on it, I still don't want to watch it again but this time because it was rubbish. The only nice comment I can give was that the music was okay.

Lol, I was gonna mention this on your behalf but it's lucky you have /net now to make the post yourself ;) I gotta say, it was a stellar start you had!

I see you've changed your username since I've last been on :p Still using libary PCs though mate. Though I've discovered I can use the internet on my phone, it just doesn't display spoiler tags...

For a hentai, Urotsukidoji actually has an ok plot.

Urotsukidoji isn't classed as a hentai, the new one is but Urotsukidoji was one of those animes that had sex and nudity, violence ect but wasn't classed as a hentai violence jack had rape in it but wasn't a hentai rin had lesbian sex but its not a hentai

Only 30s off two of them, but over 10% of the third.

30 seconds cut from Evil Town? Surely you jest, BBFC!

I'm pretty sure all three OVAs were edited by Manga before submission to the BBFC because the version Manga released in the US was edited as well (I'm going on memory here but Wiki backs me up). Right Stuf released it uncut on their porn label - that's how unpleasant some of it is.

If anyone's curious about Violence Jack but doesn't actually want to watch it, I recommend listening to the humourous AWO review.

What are you talking about? There's was loads of rape in Urotsukidoji. Anything with sexual content is classed as hentai.

Stop making things up.

Nope Urotsukidoji is definately hentai, has the R-18 rating in Japan.
The Manga is publised under Wanimagazine FFS.
The UK version is cut to an 18. Also has a cut R-15 (that's equivalent to our 18 btw) version in Japan.

Hentai in that sense is an English word, from Urotsukidoji in fact.
R-18, 18+ or ero-anime would be used in Japan.

Needs to be explicit, i.e. can see (censored) gentitals, not sure if you can get one for language (c**t, rape, penis etc.) as well.

You can go prety far without getting the R-18, see all the Manga that runs in Champion Red. There's also plenty of shoujo manga that contain sex scenes.

Violence Jack and Blue Sonnet- I believe I was about 14-15 at the time, watched it in the middle of the day, didn't phase me in the slightest, I wonder what that says about me?

its ok there are some of us that aren't phased and some that are were all different

One of the first ones I saw was Golgo 13, if I'm honest I couldn't stand it and it actaully put me off anime for some years to come. It was one scene involving some form of sexual violence that I remember particularly disturbing me, although I can't really remember as I've pretty much blanked it out of my head now. So yeah I overreacted and stopped watching anime for some time.
I was expecting an anime style black James Bond, and at the time I had yet to watch much darker anime or even many 18 films, so I had the wrong expectations in a way, though it was kinda like a black James bond.

Still it is an iconic film ,R.I.P Osamu Dezaki
