Hey there, first post so be gentle :D

Im sure you've all heard this a million times but any advice and/or opinions would be awesome.

My question is....

What anime do i watch next?

I love both Naruto and Bleach. Death Note is superb (How it makes you want Light to not get caught even though he's killings lotsa people...amazing!!). Am currently working my way through Black Lagoon...Uhm, loved Tenjho Tenge...Im a fan of fighting to be honest! Am also working my way through Gungrave, which am also enjoying, however was a little slow to begin with. Ive also started Initial D (Is it bad to be watching so much at once?! lol) which am suprisingly enjoying. One of my most loved animes would probably have to be the Ghost In The Shell series...it has a mix of everything, loved it! Ive also bought Once Piece: First Voyage, but havent managed to watch it yet...Should i drop everything and get into that?! lol.

If there are any recommendations that come to your minds after reading what i like or am currently enjoying, would love to hear what anime and why :)

Thanks for reading.

Regards

One Piece is a good companion to Bleach/Naruto. It's wackier visually but deserves its well loved reputation :)

I'd say your list is missing Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, both of which sound as though they might hit the spot given your other favourites.

Full Metal Panic will probably be something you enjoy too. How are you on fantasy stuff and comedies?

Edit: Oh and my avatar just told me I should recommend Full Metal Alchemist (unrelated to the former suggestion in every way despite the name) as well. The original series is being bundled up in box sets now and most people really enjoy it. Some fantasy, lots of good fights and an interesting story.

Hey there,

Ive actually watched both Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo (got the Champloo boxset with bandana, tis awesome!) and loved them both. Samurai Champloo had it all, fighting, comedy and i thought the actual animation was spot on. Cowboy Bebop was one of the first i watched, i watched it along with Trigun. I think those two were what really got me into anime!

I like fantasy...magic, swords...its all good, ive got the Star Ocean EX series (bought because i love the PS1 game).

And a fan of comedies. Ive read that Love Hina is good?

I forgot to mention i love the Prince Of Tennis series....Ive not really heard alot of mention of it on the forum though??

Thanks for the reply :)

Regards

Aha, you're way ahead of me.

If you like fantasy and comedy, both Slayers and Rune Soldier Louie are good buys. They're both D&D parodies of sorts. Slayers looks quite rough now (it was never very lushly animated and it hasn't aged well) but it's one of my favourites. The TV series is the best part though the movies/video specials are fun too.

Love Hina was very popular when it came out but a lot of people now have cooled off and say it compares unfavourably to the original manga version it was based on.

Spyro got seriously addicted to Prince of Tennis not long ago and made a topic. I'm sure he'd be happy to talk about it with you:

What Rui recommended as well as Sorcerer Hunters/Lost universe/Gokudo/Record of Lodoss war/Claymore/Vision of Escaflowne/Samurai7

I'm one of the very few who enjoyed the anime, but most prefer the manga (I like both). Other funny stuff: Welcome to the NHK/Magical Shopping Abenobashi/Azumanaga Daioh/Genshiken/NieA_7/Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei...

I think I would rather read Love Hina again than watch it.. 1000x better.

I'd say watch Full Metal Panic or Soul Eater (it's kind of like Naruto + one piece)

Record of loddoss war is amazing for those who like fantasy.

I also have to recommend 12 Kingdoms, as it's my favourite anime, has an amazing story and it's a fantasy. =)

 At last!

Nope- Not many people talk about Prince of Tennis here, it is a hidden gem. So you are aware, i'm on episode 94. It's taking over my life, but i'm having to pull myself away from it to do work. But, i've not been too active around the internet recently simple because Prince of Tennis (and I confess, I spent all day playing Pokemon Platinum today) and the new Pokemon game have kept me very occupied.

Saying you like 'Fighting' anime, you remind me of myself. Well, since Bleach and Prince of Tennis hit with you, i'm sure I can reccomend other Action/Fighting based Anime i've seen. Let's take a look at my list here....

- Code Geass - This show is just awesome. You liked Death Note, and you like action? This is masterful. It's really beautiful to look at, has a wonderful story and I can't praise it enough. I also lost my life to this. Seriously, you want to watch this.

- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - I reccomend this to everyone simply because it's the best thing ever (2nd GIG > 1st GIG if I had to pick though). It's got some really beautful action sequences. There's a lot more ass kicking in the second gig, but obvioulsy, you'll need to see the first gig to know whats going on. If you want, i'm sure I can PM you some spoiler free videos if you want. Just gimmie a PM if you want me too, and i'll look around.

- Witch Hunter Robin - This is the second best thing ever. I lost my taste for anime for a while because I had this feeling that no anime were really that good after what i'd seen. To compare some mediocre shows like Full Metal Panic (Oh shi- Arbalest forgive me) with something as masterful as Ghost in the Shell, it was just stupid. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Full Metal Panic but, it wasn't that good. Witch Hunter Robin entered my life, and suddenly it's all I cared for. I mean, I was obsessed to the extreme with this. I was getting up a 6.00-6.30 just to watch a few episodes before school, and watching it straight home, and before bed, whenever I could. As you can imagine, I finished the show in like, a week, and it was just amazing. Every episode was top quality. It's packed with beautifully animated action. And I can't express how beautiful this show is. The art is just masterful. Also; the story- it's just brilliant. Again- i'll PM you with video's if you want. Really, if you only listen to one thing I say, listen to this. Watch Witch Hunter Robin. You won't regret it.

Hope that helps in someway.

First off, howdy, welcome to the forums.

On recommendations, i'll back the recommendation for One Piece if you enjoy Bleach and Naruto. Its a lot more superior in comparison to the other two, in all respects(action, comedy, etc etc). The only problem i can actually see with it is its length, as its still ongoing.
Soul Eater is a good choice too, i'd highly recommend it. Its like...a mix of shounen series(but its not Shounen Jump, by the by), you could notice a few similarities with Bleach, as well as Naruto(if you look into character development) and One Piece.
Outside the general shounen stuff, i'm going to recommend Full Metal Panic! as well, its a great series overall. Ok in comparison to its following two series its the weaker of the three, but as a whole, its amazing.
Others i'll mention on the side is Code Geass, Genshiken, Hellsing Ultimate and a couple others. Anything more genre specific and i'll see what else i can come up with.

@Spyro: A comparison like GitS to FMP is fairly stupid, in that GitS is not a mecha series. Even in quality that doesn't seem right. It'd have made more sense if you compared GitS to a series which is only Sci-fi and action...say...Akira, maybe.

I wasn't really comparing them, it was more a kind of passing reference. I've not seen Akira, or, to be honest, anything else that I consider similar to GitS. The point I was making wasn't anything specific, I was just stating I found Full Metal Panic to be below average, and GitS to be above.

I'm just comparing my feelings on the shows, thats all. Nothing big.

Fantasy wise - Rune Solider, Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters.

Comedy Wise (not fantasy in particular) - Full Metal Panic, Dears, Tenchi (all of them really, but especially GXP and Universe).

Bleach/Naruto Wise - Yu Yu Hakusho (imo best anime ever), DB/Z/GT (or go for DBKai, which has just started airing (a condensed version of DBZ)).

Notably, all of these overlap into comedy really, with Yu Yu Hakusho having my 'number 1 funny moment in anime of all time'. :D

I second yu yu hakusho (also my number 1 of all time), and also reccomend hunter x hunter from the same creator, both very unique and excellent SJ shows. And if you like sports anime juding from your liking of POT, i reccomend hajime no ippo which is my number 2 of all time and is simply amazing.

Me-Mania
Ive heard and read some about Claymore and Samurai 7, i want to watch them both...Which would you recommend over the other though? Ive heard that S7 has been around a while and it has a huge following of fans...But Claymore is new and fresh to the anime scene?

JamesX and Arbalest
Is Full Metal Panic and follow on from Alchemist? Would i have to watch that first? Or is it just share a similar name? (Thank you for the welcome btw Arbalest!)

Spyro201
Tis nice to find another POT fan :) First ive found! Im not as far into the series than you though. Ive only been watching the series on dvd (bought of Amazon), up to the 3rd boxset! Im pretty impressed how they can keep thinking up new names and new shots...Makes the actual tennis matches seem like a fight yenno? Ive not heard of Code Geass so i will look into it. However i have watched Ghost in the Shell: SAC and i love the series!! I actually have Which Hunter Robin...but, its Region 1 and my DVD player packed up on me (Any recommendations on a cheap multi region dvd player?).

megagold5
They seriously bringing out a new DBZ but condensed down??? DBZ is what got me into anime...Apart from Pokemon, but i never really thought of it as a anime...SO yeah, DBZ...love it!! Can you get this new one only via the internet or is it on DVD yet?

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNND, to everyone who has pointed me to there lists, i shall be scanning them all and hopefully nicking some anime from them, thank you all for pointing me in the direction of your fav anime, hopefully it will become one of mine!....If not...i shall be having words!! Keep the recommendations coming though please!!

ALSO, if anyone could recommend a decent dvd player that can play region 1 dvd's thats cheap, but wont die on me (Like my last!) then it would be much appriciated!!

Hi there, well Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Alchemist are only related by similar names :) They are completely different to each other in most respects and you'll probably get a lot of fun watching through them both and their respective sequel series (or in the case of Full Metal Alchemist, a movie and a retelling of the series that's airing now in japan)

EDIT: Oh and about the DVD player i use a Cyberhome myself and i've had it for about 6 years now and its still functioning like a dream and its multiregional :)
