What Is Your Favorite Anime?

Hi. Just wondering what peoples favorite Anime's are? & what kinds of Anime merchandise/products you like to buy. Let me know, especially if you live in the Hull area. Thanks.

Um, this sounds an awful lot like you joined the forum to conduct personal market research for a project. If you want to do that, it's not really a problem, but can you please be up front about it and keep it all in one topic (I deleted the other)?

It would also look better if you were participating in the forum in general rather than using us as a resource and nothing more ^^;

If you can explain then I'll move it to the right forum section. If not, I may soon have to make this topic disappear.

The fact that someone replied to him at that link makes me look really mean :D

To be honest I don't blame you, sweeping questions from someone who has just joined is always a little suspicious. I'd like to see much more bulk in the opening post to see what the OP likes etc

Though then again I tend to assume they are maybe on the level and respond as such.

As for the question in hand I'd say I have no real most favourite, I tend to like the vast majority of shows I buy in one way or another, in fact while I guess I could do a top 5 it'd be pretty hard to do. Merchandise tends to vary with how much I get into the show as to if I rush out and buy a Figure/Nendoroid/T-Shirt etc

Sure. I am doing market research to open an Anime shop in Hull. If this is something that isn't allowed, or frowned upon then I apologise. I've never used these forums before and I'm still getting to grips with how they work. I have every intention of taking part in discussions as it will only increase my knowledge of Anime, which is good. I'll get the ball rolling properly now, my favorite Anime's are: Soul Eater. Ah, My Goddess. Spirited Away. Death Note. Dragonball Z.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I imagine this is how Alan Partridge would introduce himself to an anime forum. Except, you know, with Norwich instead.

To be honest this isn't a massive forum and a response here doesn't necessarily translate into what will sell well in a shop.

I do hope your aiming to add Anime/Manga to an existing shop of some kind as I don't see an Anime only shop working, too niche and too easily outdone by the internet

Any answer to the question though ilmaestro? It'd be a big help.
I think it's a pretty tough question to get truly helpful data out of on a forum like this, as Rosencrantz says. If you are willing to stay around though, you should get a good idea as to what people on here like and buy, based on posts in the "Viewing Journal" thread and the various "Anime and Manga I bought today" threads.

The biggest issue is not all of Anime fandom frequent forums.

Lawrence likes Spice & Wolf, so do I, but the average man on the street probably wouldn't. This is kinda a vocal minority situation, we will be talking about shows that may not necessarily have massive main-stream appeal. We tend to discuss shows as they come up in news events rather than rave about the latest volume of Bleach Naruto etc so the perception of what is big or not is going to be distorted.

It can't hurt to check Play and other merchants' top selling and pre-order lists for DVDs as they will give an idea of what people are buying. All The Anime also list the top sellers.

As for my favourites they won't be much help as they are all fairly old and are out of print but for what it's worth:

Serial Experiments Lain
noir
Azumanga Daioh
Madlax
Kino's Journey

Good advice. I am doing market research on the street too. But the forums are a good place to learn what dedicated fans like. figured it'd be good to learn

I am a vocal fan of Puella Mago Madoka Magica. It goes over very well with the female demographic based on the small sample I have tested. Both myself, my 63 year old mum and 26 year old sister loved it :D

Dragonball Z was my favourite for over a decade, but PMMM finally toppled it. You can't go wrong with a bit of shonen

I absolutely love Baccano! too, but you probably won't sell many copies of that, even the Japanese didn't go for it. Sad face.

I am a huge, huge, huge fan of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Has to be my favourite piece of art, not just anime. I also adore Pokémon, really like K-ON! and shonen manga like Naruto, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Also, be sure to thoroughly check the sources of any products you sell as there is an awful lot of fake stuff around (even Tokyotoys, which you were linked to, is renowned for counterfeit merchandise). I'm not sure how sustainable such a store will be, due to the products most likely having to all be imports and the high prices that will come to cover the costs of obtaining them.

Yes, PMMM is art. I totally agree. Not many things get me picking up my pencil and writing fanfic. That's one of the few.

Best way to make money out of an anime shop? Sell videogame stuff too. Not games, just all the tat that comes with them. I own as many plushies and action figures based on videogames as I do anime. I just spent £12.99 on an official Aperture Science Weighted Companion Cube keyring yesterday. I will not be throwing it in a fire though...

I agree with stocking video game merchandise, or even go down the comic book route.

As for anime series,

My brother likes things like: K-ON, Panty & Stocking, Azumanga Diaoh, Lucky Star, Yuruyuri, Madoka Magica, Yotsuba&! (Manga) etc...

Where as I enjoy things like: Hellsing Ultimate, Berserk, Attack on Titan, Baccano!, Code Geass, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Durarara, Fullmetal Alchemist etc...

For me, the main obstacle is that I already import merchandise for myself, and buying from a UK shop wouldn't change much. It would feel unfair to tell you my favourite shows when they don't tend to be popular for merchandise over here (criminally!) and I would rarely buy from a local stockist myself ^^;

(As an aside I disagree that PMMM is ideal for the female demographic in particular; there's no doubt that it's very popular in general, however.)

If I did find myself with some time to kill in Hull one day, I'd prefer a comic book/manga shop to a gaming/manga stop for browsing as I'd have a greater expectation of finding more interesting merchandise.

I echo the request to avoid selling unlicensed goods.

R

The only other route you could go down I guess, would be selling the Japanese snacks that are seen in anime shows. Like on J-List they sell this chop stick one (applogies, the name escapes me) and most of the photos of the product are screen shots of a scene in K-ON.
