well know voices in animes

we've all heard them some thats familiar and some you heard them before and can't put your finger on it who they remind you of

i heard the voice of neji from naruto on moribito
ed from fma on ouran high school as Tamaki
Konoka Konoe from negima on ouran high school as Konoka Konoe
and i swaer i heard Uryus voice from bleach on a few other animes

do you think its annoying, strange or funny to hear the voices on different characters

I rather like familiar voices.

Ed and Tamaki are Vic Mignogna btw.
Brad Swaile pops up a lot with regard to Gundam stuff and Johnny Yong Bosch and Steve Blum are pretty ubiquitous. I kind of wish Jamieson Price was in more stuff, he rocked as the Colonel in the newer Akira dub and as Briareos in Appleseed 2004

Anime? Steve Blum, ofc. Never saw the appeal in Vic Mignogna, liked him as Ed, though.

Non Anime? H. Jon Benjamin. He uses the same voices for a soccer coach, a spy, a burger resturant owner and a 3-headed dog and they're all awesome characters.

I don't mind recognizing my favorite seiyuu in different roles, it can definitely add to the appeal of certain characters, but it is also kind of fun to be surprised by a performance in an "oh, that was xxx?!" kind of way. It's kind of janky when you hear guys like Wakamoto Norio or Nakata Joji in full on self parody mode, but even that has its own charm.

I find it difficult to spot different japanese voice actors, so get very suprised
when I find out who is who.

On the Dub side I quite like Crispin Freeman and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (especially in GITS).

I get sick of Johnny Young Bosh and Vic Mignogna being teenage boys in almost everything I watch. I guess there is a limited pool of people to pick from, and those two are good at those roles, but I would like a bit more variety.

Im not sure If I am imagining it or not, but there seems to be a 'standard old man' voice that I here a lot, Im not sure if its the same person getting cast all the time, or lots of people doing the same sort of voice.

I often buy otherwise-rubbishy series just for the seiyuu cast, so I tend to know the main actors in advance. Bit characters can often be funny - hearing Chopper from One Piece as a throwaway character in Jigoku Shoujo was amusing and I was itching for the credits to start as soon as the character started talking.

I never watch dubs so can't comment on those.

Johnny Yong Bosch is in just about everything, but then again so is Steve Blum, Wendee Lee is in quite a few things as well if I recall, those guys have very distinct voices, Crispin Freeman however is quite good at putting on a variety of voices though, for example, Hideki, Alucard and Zelgadis all sound nothing alike as far as I'm concerned

The same applies to me, except for a bunch of actors who did much of their work in the 80s and 90s. Akira Kamiya, Toshio Furukawa, Megumi Hayashibara, Shigeru Chiba, Sumi Shimamoto, and Norio Wakamoto are all voices I instantly recognise. Today, I hardly recognise anyone, so either I watch a disproportionate amount of 80s and 90s anime in Japanese; there was a smaller pool of actors back then; or today's seiyuu generally have less distinctive voices. I don't know.

Crispin Freeman has a decent range considering how distinctive his voice is. Still, whatever character he voices it's instantly recognisable as him.

Steve Blum and Johnny Yong Bosch are similarly recognisable but don't have the same range. Blum doesn't seem to be around as much these days, but JYB still seems to be in bloody well everything.

I think it's partly down to the actor/actress being good to work with as well. He may not have much range, but allegedly Bosch is a good bloke, so that helps him gets the roles.

Was Bosch the guy who played Vash? If so he's absolutely brilliant, he had the perfect voice for Vash. Without him the character wouldn't be anywhere near as good. The Japanese voice wasn't a patch on him.

Yeah, considering the voice acting community seems to be relatively cliquey anyway, the anime voice acting community has to be even more so.

The only seiyu I like to recognise are Mamoru Miyano and Shinichiro Miki.

I found it impossible to watch the Naruto Shippuden dub, due to Beau Billingslea voicing Homura (one of the elders). I couldn't get Jet Black and the Outlaw Star narrator out of my head.

Recognising a voice actor once or twice is cool, but when it's more than that...urgh. FUNimation dubs are so annoying now, due to that very reason.

Someone told me that Nolan North was in some of those video game things one time.

[Sighs, goes gooey-eyed] Mary Elizabeth McGlynn... never before has a voice carried so much rowr power.

And no... that's NOT a typo. Rowr!

Call me a heathen (although, do think twice before you do - I've a solid right hook on me) but I'm something of a fanboy when it comes to English language VAs.

I'm quite a fan of William Knight, Richard Epcar and Steven Blum especially. True, their voices might be immediately recognisable from one role to another, but there's something very reassuring about their presence in a dub. I also think they're all capable of occasionally pulling something extra out of the bag. Currently really enjoying Blum as Lee-Ron in Gurren Lagann.

Also - and I mention him because he gets so little love, it seems - I really likes me some Dan Woren in a dub. That guy is just pure class!

i know that but ................. lets just say theres a character you really really really love and everything about him or her is unique and the voice is perfect for that character, and one day you watch a anime with the voice of you favourite character in it, wouldn't that piss you off atleast a lil
