Well devil may cry anime was a let down.

I figured the action would be the strongpoint of the series. I wasn't actually expecting an epic or emotional plotline but I did hope the fights would be cool.

Apart from the first scene, all fights are somehow underpowered and strangely, off screen a lot of the time. Maybe its just me, but I lost count of the number of times action was cut away from for no aparrent reason. Was it budget? Time available? Or could they not be bothered to animate a proper scrap?

For example: Take the prison episode, Dante is about to take on the guards (who are demons, go figure) with his bare hands. This will be interesting I thought. However, instead we get a thoroughly lazy cut to 'later'.

I know action is often stylistically omitted in anime, sometimes for the better. However, here it just screams lazy planning. :(

What did you expect from basing an anime on an average game?

Hmm, I quite liked DMC3 (which is the only of the 3 games I've played) and (I think the critics will back me up on this one, too) definately didn't think it was average. The story in DMC was pretty cool too!
I guess I have high standards since I've been gaming my whole life. I played the first one and got extremely bored.

I don't think it's a matter of standards or how long you have been gaming. The most common reason for someone to not like a good game is because it's just not their cup of tea. Everyone doesn't love Halo or Zelda even though they are AAA titles, and people who don't like them are not wrong or stupid, it's just not their kind of game. :]

I've been gaming since I was 5 or 6 and loved DMC1 and 3. What a weird thing to say.

How much you enjoy DMC depends on how much you like unrelenting action. Compared with other capcom games like resident evil, DMC has little in the way of puzzles which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your perspective.

I loved it the second I realised you could pin demons up in the air with pistol fire  Or perhaps it was when I heard Dante's hilariously awful one liners...

To me it was the first real action game i played that i enjoyed. Relentless action, kickass moves and some ruthless difficulty i loved every second of it. I remember playing it with my mate till the wee hours - passing the controller to each other as we attempted our 6th try to kill "sheep boy".

The first cool factor of Devil May Cry to me personally was the moment I realised that my character floats in the air when I go wild with Ebony & Ivory. Also the fact that I could make my enemies float in the air with a similar but more painful process. ;]

Agreed that is one of the best bits a huge sword combo, followed by lifting the jesters into the air with some twin gun action and then watching them fly apart, ahhhhh heaven

Yes but I like to think I have good taste. Most gamers I know have poor taste.

Anyway, back on topic, the anime looks horrible.

I wouldn't get your hopes about DMC4, don't you remember what the last even numbered Devil May Cry game was like :p Though at the moment it looks like it will be great fun *touch wood*

Hmmm it looked alright but the graphics were pretty shoddy for a next-gen DMC game. If they'd only kept to Ps3 exclusivity and used those extra processors *sigh sigh*

Or even stayed with the 360 and concentrated on that - but then again i suppose it was made on the 360 and then ported to the ps3.

Regardless im holding my breath, i know graphics arent everything but DMC was all about cool looking gameplay and it looks a lil too "playdo halo 3" esque graphics from the vids ive seen.
