Welcome to the NHK!

Hopefully the pound will be stronger next year and I'll be able to import the two Funimation box sets. But, if not, I'm not too fussed when I've already purchased the novel, Vol. 1-6 of the manga and Vol. 1 (ADV) of the anime - I'm more than a happy to wait for the over-priced UK releases.

I've got the discs on pre-order now. I'm not too fussed about the exchange rate. Even with it where it is now, I'll be paying around £12 a disc if I get stung by customs, £8 if the package sneaks through. That's well worth it for NHK.

I think the days of the 2 dollar pound are gone, and won't be coming back in the foreseeable future. I think eventually the rate will drop back to around where it was before the boom months, and where it was for around ten years or so, $1.60 to the pound, but it won't be much more than that.

I tend to keep a watch on the travel money section of business on the BBC web site as it gives a realistic view of what you will be paying and at 15:00 this afternoon it is at $1.40 to £1.00 now that hurts.

It is now worth me going back to playusa with more of my orders as if they can keep it below £18.00 they do, even some of the dearer stuff is worth the risk of duty as taking into account postage and the like it now works out cheaper than ordering direct. Even the prices on up1 are starting to look good on anything you know you would pay duty on from elsewhere.

If it helps, the collections are currently £27.72 each at Axel Music, with free shipping to the UK until the end of the year. Guaranteed customs safe, too, but they do debit your card straight away.

PlayUSA have some good prices for recent Bandai stuff. The My-Hime collection, for example, is £18.

It's a shame the pound has become worthless because it ruins my SecondSpin bargain hunting. Paying $3 for a second-hand DVD you can't see until you receive is becoming far less appealing as $3 moves closer towards being worth £3.

As for paying £27 for half the collection, that's crazy when Funimation sell low quality box sets. If you're going to pay that much, you might as well wait for Beez to release the series in 2 x £30 box sets - at least that way you'll be supporting the UK anime industry.

Well, I'm guessing that the three disc boxset will equate to the original ADV single disc releases. I don't see Funimation doing the transfers over from scratch for those and spending a wodgeload of extra money.

And there's not even the slightest rumour of what will happen to those ADV UK titles that got Sojitzed last year. Frankly, I'm not going to wait on another company while I'm already waiting on Revelation to find first gear again on their shows.

Thanks for that. Went on a browse of PlayUSA and dropped £40-ish.

I noticed Desert Punk and Galaxy Railways collections at £18 each.
Desert Punk is coming out in the UK next year anyway...
Galaxy Railways is the Viridian collection, and I'm not all that keen on the packaging.
Rumbling Hearts complete is there for £12
Shrine Of The Morning Mist is there for £15

But then I noticed the Viridian Tenchi Muyo GXP, and if I have to have one...

So I got Tenchi Muyo GXP and Please Teacher.

Please Teacher is cheaper at DVD Pacific until you add the postage.

I now return you to your NHK thread.
