"Weird Japanese Stuff"

Though I'm glad that even though I bought Puni Puni Poemy (which if you don't know is 18+), that the staff didn't look at me wierd.
Indeed! I didn't get one weird look from any member of staff and you just have to look at the cover and the age rating to set people of thinking you're up to strange things.

Well, a girl I know, who would never even consider watching anime, watched Spirited Away last night, and said it was amazing.

I doubt she's an otaku in the making, but it's a good sign.

I always get funny looks 8)

If someone looks at me funny i turn back around and stare at em back and they get fweaked and look the other way

Non violent mental abuse ^^

I actually don't care how people look at me when I'm at the anime section (provided it isn't next to the porn section). I'm not wary of it, so I don't know if I get any.

I honestly can't say I have ever noticed and nor do I care. Their opinion of me couldn't be worse than my opinion of them should I ever stop to contemplate it. I don't have a lot of time for narrow-minded people so I just leave them to it.

I must also say, unless it's just Preston, most of the anime there is usually stocked next to the Martial Arts stuff... I think these non-fans are a lil' confused in where to put it all.

Hehe, In Manchester's HMV store it's got Martial Art's on one side and Doris Day Musicals on the other. :p

lol

and in the Trafford Center it's just chucked randomly lol

They moved the porn away from the animé at my local Music Zone, but they're still fairly close at my HMV...

Still, anyone over a certain age who's sat down and watched Spirited Away (either in English or Japanese) can't deny that it's very, very good and thoroughly deserved its Oscar.

It's been moved in between World Cinema and Martial Arts in my local HMV of late. I think it's a fitting place. Plus it's also been moved away from the back corner and more into the middle.

Anime is now with the foreign films in my local HMV but still mixed in with the porn at my Virgin Megastore.

At the Milton Keynes HMV, it used to be right by the front tills, next to the martial arts. Now it's moved one slot further back, but doubled it's shelf size, so it's alright.

I love the 'up to strange things' line. That made me laugh out loud.

I pay little attention to who's looking at me when I'm browsing an anime section. The chances are that if someone is hanging around looking at you looking at anime they're not thinking you're weird but instead are thinking when is he/she going to go so I can get on with looking at the adjacent porn movies!!

I've actually had nice experiences in the high-street where staff on tills have asked me if I've seen various other anime or have told me what I'm buying is good. I tell them to mind their own business! Only joking.

It was weired at lunch time today. I decided to wander into HMV for a mooch and I had to fight to get to the anime. ( And considering the anime section's about 10ft wide, that's a fair few of people to fight through when you think about it. )

Then you actually find out that they're protesters of Hentai and Lolicon... But then again, they must be confusing Anime and the likes...

I'd love to have that in my local HMV I's so pull a Kevin Smith (Director who protested his own film for a laugh and actaully ended up on the news - he did change his name and claimed to be a member of the public but sooo funny), join the protest and then when the news crew turn up I'd calim I thought the protest was to get the size of the section increased and these people where fellow fans devoted to increase anime love :D

At my HMV I never really recived anything mentioned above, though I did get a funny look when I bought Legend of the overfiend ^__^. I find that people are quick to judge it after only seeing one film and then diciding that Animé isn't for them. A friend and I are very much into Animé and tried to get our other friend into it, So we showed him Alien of Darkness, Mission of Darkness and legend of the overfiend, deffinitly not the way to go, but his reaction was funny.

I got one comment from a friends sister saying "Why are you watching there them stupid Chinese Cartoons?" Yes.
