We Are Back!

Just a random fact. Over 3,000 spambot registration attempts have been stopped today....

It's scary to see them coming like this, but I'm really glad that not a single one of them got past the security measures we put in place =) Of course nothing lasts forever, spambots keep getting better, so I have to keep up to date as well.

 It's high time spamming was made a worldwide criminal offence, carrying a penalty of having your thumbs and index fingers cut off.

Lol - I'm happy if you buy me a pint if we ever meet =)

Ayase - another 2k today....
I used a trick I've learned on another site there. Just renamed the phpBB page for registrations and now spambots can't automatically sign on. It may need a little more work later, to actually go and block their IP's after X attempts, but at least now the damage they can produce is significantly reduced.

Too bad we can't give spambots a good hiding!

To see the forums display "Today / yesterday / etc... " I'll check if I can change this across the board later.

User control panel -> Board Preferences -> My date format - choose an option that says "less than a minute ago…."

Now I have something called "root access", which means I can define the rules of the firewall myself and block these annoying bots! =P
