Oh, one other quality I don't think anyone mentioned about the DVD format - it takes a very long time before it wares away whereas with a video cassette repeated viewing can depreciate its value quicker than a bullet from a gun (crap metaphor, sorry).

I chose VHS just to be different! 8)

DVDs are good, but there are a fair few qualities that only VHS has. I like being able to stop watching and start again at exactly the same spot as where I started. No flicking through between chapters!

Also videos are much cheaper and I've had a great time digging through charity shops and boot sales and coming away with many a neglected treasure! :D (anyone who's seen Lupin: Fuma Conspiracy on UK VHS will know what I mean)

There are people out there who have a strange bond for mediums that have gone past their sell-by-date, and I suspect the people who prefer VHS over the DVD format (!!!!!) have similar reason/s to those who prefer old vinyl records over CDs.

I prefer prefer DVD over VHS any day. I haven't had a VCRin my house since 1999. Although I still ahve a load of old cassettes hidden away. Ushio & Tora, KO Century Beast Warriors, RG Veda, Project A-KO to name a few...

...but, even though I like the convenience of CDs (and MP3s), I still think vinyl sounds better for the music I listen to. The sound is a lot warmer than CDs which makes the bass so much nicer. Sound is analogue after all. A digitally created wave is not really a true wave. Plus, with vinyl, you have true random access. :)

My DVD player has a 'resume' function. I would have thought most of them do. :)

Meh, my player cost about £20, so as soon as you take the disc out it's game over!

Yes! You know the truth! (still trying to get a copy of KO Century Beast Warriors, but it's eluded me so far...)

Excuse my ignorance, but is it that hard to get hold of? Has it not been released on DVD yet?
You can get it on DVD in America, but the one you've got's got a dub that was made and released only in the UK (it was under a lot of the staff of Anime UK/FX magazine). They never finished the series. They released that, and then went bust!

Other one-video companies are Crusader (Catgirl Nuku Nuku - also with UK exclusive dub) and Animania (Guy: Awakening of the Devil - ADV dub but never released on DVD!).

Sorry for the history lesson, but I like all the obscure stuff!

DVD because they are able to digitally remaster old movies and series, and they have replay value with the making of the movie, etc etc, plus theres that whole DVD game thingy (I aint tried it yet) which seems cool

I prefer DVDs, as they're easier to navigate and stop halfway through watching something, easier to store and of course dual language options.
I hate the fragility of them though. I have videos from years back that still play perfectly, but DVDs scratch and get mucky far too easily and a number of used DVDs I've bought have come to me in a real mess.
I'd like a DVD that had the durability of a video cassette ^__^

I prefer DVD because it doesn't take up as much space as VHS'. My shelf is already full and I have no space left for any new stuff & I can't imagine how much space it will take if my DVD's are actually VHS'

Another thing about VHS' is that it can be annoying to keep on rewinding.

AGREED AGREED AGREED!!!

Blu-Ray Suckers! Muahaha!

Though HVD is better who has $15,000 to waste on 1 Player...

But on this DVD is the winner imo.

Oh man I forgot how annoying it was to have to rewind videos, and when they had more than one episode on them and you have to fast forward and then play it over and over again til you found the right spot, now that was annoying and time consuming
