Vampire Anime... I wants some.

hellsing is a great vampire anime. Both the old and the new. I also liked Vampire princess Myiu as well. I'm currently reading Rosario + Vampire, but its just a standard shounen stuff, not sure you'd like it.

think ill give the old one a go. i prefer older anime. some subjects i just dont think mix well with the newer glossier animation, horror being one of them.

p.s. unellmay made me troll chaos! BAN HIM!

I second the Vampire Princess Miyu recommendation - though I mean the OAV series, have not seen the TV series yet.

Hellsing is of course solid gold vampire anime, just steer clear of Vampire Wars (or Vampire Sensou as its called in Unellmay's list) - its a pile o' crap.

Oh, and then theres the 3rd episode of Cyber City Oedo 808 which has a vampire theme to it.

ive seen the miyu oav... havent seen the tv series as it all glossy animation. i like it dirty

For the love of sanity, Chaos, DONT LOOK!!!
Of course, my sanity was alway in question, it just not my taste.... :p

I recommend Helsing Ultimate too, especially for the art style. I've only read the manga for Trinity Blood, so I cant say much for the anime, however, I'm enjoying the read.
Think of Vampires in T.B as a new race of humans with mysterious powers and different mannerisms (they do act very posh and have such egos). Rather than simple hunts by the church, it's like a holy war between the humans and vampires as the main focus, but it gets more interesting with the perspective/story of the characters involved.

It is not as bad as ManFaye, thank goodness.

I've been beaten to it but, yeah Hellsing for sure. Definitely one of the best vampire shows anime has to offer.

If your looking for a more serious take on vampires stick with the old TV show, while I love the OVA's too they have more of a comedy slant in places which takes some getting used to.

I think Skikes would like an anime form of Twilight.

Also try the Lament of the Lamb OVA, I've not seen it, but it's meant to be good.

Can anyone recommend me some gritty, dark, horror vampire anime? Like Vampire Hunter D.
There are two Vampire Hunter D movies. Have you seen both? In case you've only watched the decidedly iffy 1985 film, allow me to recommend 2000's Bloodlust, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

The third episode of Kawajiri's Cyber City OEDO 808 concerns itself with the ol' bloodsuckers. There's also Nightwalker, a TV series from the late 1990s.

Lament of the Lamb isn't a vampire series in a normal sense. In LotL, 'vampirism' is a disease of the mind that will drive a person insane if they don't drink the blood of someone else. If you go into it expecting Hellsing, you won't enjoy it as it's a very, very slow drama about a brother and sister 'infected' with the disease. Night and day issues and demonic transformations have no place in it.

Since its the only vampire anime i know that hasn't been said already, there's Lunar Legend Tsukihime but its slower pace then the others and the anime has an overall worse storyline then the game and manga version (lack of detail and slight character changes)

skikes hates twilight... for many reasons. the no.1 reason being that because of twilight every time i say i love vampires i now feel that i have to end it with "...and not because of twilight"

sparkling vampires with no fangs that can walk in the daylight just doesnt tickle my pickle. Although Robert Pattinson most certainly does.

this sounds promising. not what i described at all but sounds interesting.

ok so from the suggestions i think im gonna give hellsing and lament of the lamb.

But please keep the rocommendation coming... any mind numbing 80/90s ****?

Seconding Nightwalker, it's a short little show and not the most consistent but it hit the spot. If you can take a vampire comedy, check out the Master of Mosquiton series. I've only seen the OAV but it was pretty messed up and funny.

Trinity Blood looks gorgeous in terms of character designs. Usual problem with them flaking out at the ending and leaving you wanting more. Worth a watch though.

If you can take implied vampirism (as a lot of these are) rather than it being the focus you may find some mileage in Yami No Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) as well - one of the important characters has some vampiric qualities. Nice eye candy again if rather girly. Not nearly as wimpy as Twilight.

Dance in the Vampire Bund looks like a title to keep an eye out for, even though it may be a little early to do so.

Looks promising. I tried to get the manga a while ago but I could not seem to find volume 1 anywhere and gave up.

As for recommendations I don't think I can add much. Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing, Vampire Princess Miyu and Trinity Blood are all worth trying on the slightly more serious side. Karin (Chibi Vampire), and Moon Phase are worth a go on the comedy side.
