Huh, Mardock Scramble 2's bluray art is different to the DVD art.

Either the DVD will be revised to match the bluray, or the bluray will be revised to match the DVD...or both will keep their separate covers. ̶O̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶'̶l̶l̶ ̶s̶w̶a̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶a̶r̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶e̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶e̶d̶i̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶.̶

And decidedly inferior. We've got several months 'til release, can we get Andrew in here and get this changed? Personal preference aside, the DVD cover is far more striking and I'd imagine would lead more browsers to pick it up off a shelf in a high street shop. The BD cover is genericism defined.

Considering she's 15...I'm okay without the sideboob.
That would sound more convincing coming from someone who didn't like Strike Witches :p

In all seriousness, I'm not convinced that a fanservicey cover was the way to go for this series. Not because that particular drawing has been assigned the age of 15, but because of the sexual abuse Balot has suffered. In that light even her mild objectification feels a bit wrong.

But I still prefer the Sentai cover by virtue of it not having had words and logos liberally vomited all over it.

As you said, the tone of Strike Witches and Mardock Scramble is completely different. With Strike Witches, it's a bit of fun because the show is pretty much all about the fanservice and the obviousness of it is something fans joke about. With Mardock Scramble, Rune was sexually abused and wound up in prostitution, so it leaves a much more disturbing, bitter taste.

I prefer Sentai's just because she looks happy for once. The black and red dress is definitely the classiest of the lot, though.

That's a bit like saying people who've suffered sexual abuse in the past can't or shouldn't be thought of as being sexy though - Isn't that almost more demeaning?

Except that in this case, having a sexy image of them on a front cover is objectifying them as sexual objects, compared to just wanting to look sexy for a partner (for example).

This is where I generally disagree with people on the subject of objectification - To me it means treating someone like an object, and you can't do that just by looking at them (nor can they objectify themselves by looking a certain way).

I think in Mardock Scramble's case it is reasonable due to the subject matter. She's not afraid to show a little flesh in the anime itself, and to me a happy expression with a skimpy costume appeals a lot more than a forlorn look designed to make the audience want to protect her. Both are fanservice, in different ways (and her dress is slit up to her hip in both, anyway).

Clearly the only right thing to do is pick the cool cover on the previous mock-up :D

It would be if that was what I was saying. My issue with that depiction of the character, and it's a minor issue, is that a well-written character who's been through a lot is reduced to mere fanservice fodder. There's no context.

I don't think she has to wear a forlorn look for "moe" appeal either. Balot is shown to be a strong character who doesn't need protecting.

Liking the cover, more than Sentai's at least.
Reminds me I still need to get the BD though.

Unrelated, but why do companies here seem to love putting COMPLETE SERIES (X) EPISODES (X) DISC SET on the front covers?
Granted Manga are probably the biggest offender for this, but it just ruins the cover art.
We already have enough clutter just by the massive BBFC logo being on the cover.

I don't watch anything Bleach but I'm really, REALLY, not liking this cover. Far too much going on.
The 'Collectors edition' cover looks much better.
