Earlier in December, UK DVD distributor <em>Pinnacle Vision</em> <a href="http://pinnacle-vision.co.uk/">fell into</a> administration. They were the DVD distributor for, amongst many others, anime publishers <em><a href="http://pinnacle-vision.co.uk/labels/label_info.php?Label=B179">Beez</a> </em>and <a href="http://pinnacle-vision.co.uk/labels/label_info.php?Label=R581"><em>Revelation Films</em></a> (as well as <a href="http://pinnacle-vision.co.uk/titles/label_catalogue.php?Label=I689"><em>4Digital Media</em></a>, who have released the<em> Death Note</em> (live action) movie in the UK earlier this year and plan to release anime series <em>Mnemosyne </em>too).

In the short term, this may slightly impact on the availability of certain anime DVDs in the UK, though <em>Revelation Films</em> have apparently <a href="http://www.lacedigitalmediasales.com/browse?label=FUNimation">already switched</a> their distribution to <em>Lace Digital Media Sales</em> (who also distribute for <em>ADV </em>in the UK), while <em>Beez</em> expect to announce their future plans "<a href="http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1483760&postcount=10">very shortly</a>".

I'm surprised thats the only distributor thats announced that its gone into administration this month actually, specially with the fact that a lot of other companies/shops outwith anime have already done so, WoolWorths for example who are now closing. Still, in that respect i'm kind of glad its not been that bad, and with them finding other distributors, it shouldn't do to much to whats available, at least at the moment.

Even worse is that this has happened at Christmas. I would have thought that around December would be boom time for anyone involved with/connected to retail. I suppose this has been brewing for while?

Well, i guess all the retail side of things started to suffer when the market started to collapse around a month - month and a bit ago, now with the pound at its weakest in years it was bound to happen to some of the anime distributors. My guess is now they are in administration, they may try to find some company to buy them out, and then maybe they could get back on their feet, but at the moment it maybe a long shot. Even with sales going on everywhere at the moment and the VAT reduction, its really the fact that people aren't really willing to spend as much now.
