UK Anime Charts

Yeah I've seen that when they did the post. Just wondering if there was another way to know the ammounts but guess not. Lets wat for them. Thanks

They used to publish charts without exact sales figures in magazines (don't know if they still do as both of the UK's anime magazines are dreadful). It's a shame everyone has clammed up about the workings of the industry, though Manga have been known to declare their exact sales figures for certain titles on Twitter if asked, so you could potentially use that combined with the Anime Limited charts to guess how the others were doing.

I imagine the weekly charts look not dissimilar to the Anime Limited summaries, since all of the titles we usually talk about here will be drowned out by Ghibli and Shounen Jump adaptations.

Andrew's post cites the BVA as source, but presumably data you can only access as a member - otherwise all you can do is buy the yearbooks (and it isn't clear what is actually in them).

I'm quite surprised one company can get hold of anothers sales data tbh, even via a 3rd party.

Also kinda depressing that the number 10 entry for 2012 sales sold between 2 and 2.5k, meaning the majority of titles we buy here are well below that figure.

Technically by the letter of the description underneath, they could all be any amount over the figure given, so they could have sold between 20k and 25k :D

I suspect they did not, however.

I suppose technically thats true, but the fact that all the entries about are > 2.5k suggests that at the low end at least its a matter of 500 sales. And with DBZ & Naruto I would kinda expect a similar sales number accross volumes (not necessarily series), hence why they all clock in at 2.5k

In the US you can get hold of anyone's sales data - you just need to stump up the Videoscan fees. I assume the data from the BVA is similar.

I believe it works the same way here with video games physical sales. Not that I get to see the sales figures.

Videoscan isn't exactly representative. I think it still focuses on B & M and doesn't count all online sales. I'd guess that the UK sales figures are just as accurate. I doubt BVA go to Anime on Line and UP1 and gets their sales figures to add to their lists. They'll just go to the main re and e-tailers. And those outlets mostly shift mainstream titles, not niche.

Even still, I doubt that most critically rated anime ever shift more than 3000 copies in the UK, and it would be rare for them to see a second print run.
