Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadows

Completely Average High School Student
This cartoon (Katri, Girl of the Meadows, English translation) was broadcast on Channel 4 on August 31st 1987 as part of 1987's Japanese Autumn season. Although there were 49 episodes of the cartoon ,Channel 4 only broadcast the first episode from the series and the last episode from the series a week apart respectively.

The title of the cartoon as it was broadcast was 'Little Girl on the Farm' (First Episode)

Officially, this cartoon was never dubbed into English until 2005 by Ushi-Ai in Finland. This, I believe was a pilot project..prior to 2005, It had been dubbed into French, German, Spanish, Italian but not English.

The two episodes which were broadcast by Channel 4 were definitely dubbed into English. I remember the English language specifically and the newspaper tv guides for those days states 'English Soundtrack'.

Channel 4 say they were not responsible for the dubbing of these two episodes. They say that the episodes were distributed by FUJI TV. Neither FUJI TV nor Nippon hold the records to this any longer. I'm trying to figure out who was responsible. As I say, internationally, no 'official' English dubbing occurred prior to 2005. This would have
been August/September 1987. I remember the first episode very fondly in English.

I've been searching all over for this episode but it seems to have been a 'one off'. The only other reference I have found to it is on the Dutch version website 'Nathalie' under the list of alternate titles : http://www.kindertv.net/complete-series ... -1987-1988

Has anybody ever come across this rare UK dub?

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

It's very strange.........not only do I distinctly remember the English version but the BFI and the old tv guides have a record of it.......... .........other than that, there seems to be no record that this ever existed, to the point where it is stated in many places that no English dub has ever existed

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

I assume the TV guides make no mention of any of the voice actors?

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

No such luck, but the snippet clearly says 'English Soundtrack'

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

Like I'm sure I've mentioned in another of these threads somewhere else in the past, it is probably similar to BBC's "Lum the Invader Girl" - never released on DVD so if you can't find a copy someone taped off the TV (Lum is more recent and has been uploaded to YouTube so is more well-known) you're probably out of luck unless you can somehow track down someone who was involved and remembers something.
Jonathan Clements would normally be the go-to guy with his fingers full of pie and his email archives, but he was what, 16 at the time?
Have you tried reaching out to Helen McCarthy on Twitter to see if she might know anything, or have an idea of where to look?

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

I haven't tried those routes............who are the two people you mention?

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

Figured out who they both are :) I've tweeted Helen ...can't seem to find an online contact for Jonathan

Re: Trying to trace a rare UK Dub : Katri Girl of the meadow

They co-authored the Anime Encyclopedia among other achievements. For more info see Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Clements

Their sites/blogs are linked from there.
Given the date, Helen might be a better bet, you can contact her on Twitter at https://twitter.com/tweetheart4711

Jonathan was only 16 when it aired so he might have seen it but I doubt he'd know any more than you do unless he has an idea of someone else to ask (he's worked for C4 at least, on their 100 greatest cartoon show). Only way I know to contact him is to drop a comment on his blog.

--edit--

Haven't thought to check the Anime Encyclopedia itself, thinking about it. I have a Kindle copy but I can't access it on a work PC.
