Trigun/Trigun Maximum question

Well today I got round to buying Trigun, only I noticed I had bought "Trigun: Maximum". I found out that Trigun had only lasted for 3 volumes (re-released in 2 later on). Do I need to read the Trigun volumes before I start this or will it not matter that much?

I need to be more careful and check what I'm buying next time!

Yes you do. They're actually the same series but because the original publisher went bust and still owned the name it had to be continued under another name so what became Trigun Maximum vol 1 should actually have been Trigun vol 4

Yes, you need to read the two volumes of Trigun to carry on the story which is Maximum.

I looked up the history on wiki which made me ask this question - Volume 1 is quite easy to find - but where the hell is volume 2!? Does anyone know any sites where it might be?

Trigun's a great manga, but it doesn't really get going until Maximum in my opinion, it's worth sticking with though.
