TOP 10 BEST ANIME MOVIES AND SERIES EVER!

I love the original Ghost In The Shell, it's what got me into anime. I like Oshii's filming / storytelling style. It's been described as "dreamlike" before and I think that fits it pretty well. I always feel like I'm in a bit of a daze whenever I watch one of his films (in a good way).

I would say Kenji Kawai's music fits with Oshii's films the way Susumu Hirasawa's fits with Kon's. The sequence in the middle of GITS with shots of the city in the rain to "Ghost City" is for me one of the most thoughtful and beautiful pieces of cinema ever.

Each to their own, I guess.

Actually, from other Japanese lists I've seen that gives it some more credibility. As this is pretty much how other similar lists have gone.

The Nausicaa movie sucked. I thought it was rushed and messy even before I found out that it was a cut-down adaptation of the manga. Although for clarification I suppose I should add that the manga is amazing.

Bebop had a lukewarm reception in Japan, iirc. I always wondered if maybe the western style of it didn't appeal to Japanese audiences.

Considering it was Miyazaki's first attempt at a major movie with Studio Ghibli, it was actually pretty good.

Really? Quite shocked about that, all i knew is that it was moved time schedules for content. I had no idea it only faired lukewarm in the Japanese's public eyes. Did Watanabe's Champloo fair any better?
 
People seem to like making lists, looking at lists and then debating about the content of lists. I don't. Lists suck.

Oh, I'll certainly grant it wasn't bad for a first outing, but that still doesn't mean it was a good movie overall.

I think it did a little better, but still not great - that's based on hearsay though, so it may not be entirely reliable.
 
Stopped reading at #10. GitS has always been the 'no list is complete without X' goto for people filling out anime lists. It stopped giving you instant credibility about 10 years ago.

Well said. It's rare to have a top 10 list of anything that doesn't spark major disagreement. Personal preferences vary and as a result, so do peoples ideas of the 'ideal' list. It's hardly a shocking list in my mind, not what I would have chosen but then it wouldn't be.

I don't take lists like that. For me they serve as recommendations. If a few of items in the list would make into a list of mine, then possibly the rest is worth checking.

Lists are fun, insightful, thought provoking and serve as a great way to convey information. Lists are good.
 
I don't support the choices completely in this list. But that's because it's just a list and I have my own thoughts on a top ten.

I do enjoy talking about anime tho so it doesn't bother me to converse about where we feel these choices stand in our own opinions. eg I was also suprised to not see CBebop there but that's coz I rate the series quite high in my books for story line, character and nostalgia purposes. I am Happy to see the GITS movie and 1st Gig in there however. HUGE fan, and I love an anime that makes you think rather than switch off.

Oh, and I lfor one ove "Nausicaa" :p
