USA Manga publisher Tokyopop have confirmed that japanese publisher Kodansha have let their manga licensing contracts expire. So Tokyopop can no longer carry on releasing existing Kodansha series or reprint pervious Kodansha volumes.

For complete list of titles which have been left half finished, been saved by other companies or completed titles which will now currently go out of print click this link

I have to hope someone picks up the rest of Getbackers for myself.

Looking at the offically out of print list I can tell a lot won't get relicensed, only GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, Love Hina & Sailor Moon stand out to be saved. Shows the problem with tokyopop releasing too many titles where there was not enough interest in the first place to make them worthwhile to release.

Well that's unfortunate
that gto is going to be saved I mean.........

I hope gto the early years won't though that can burn in hell where it belongs

Wonder who will licence the new gto though? hmmmmm

Why does it hurt you so much that things you don't personally like exist? Is it just because you want to get back at people who don't like things you do?

I see FMP isn't on that list, so thats a good sign. Now if only they'd get their arses into gear and get volume 4 and 5 out. I want to see how they approach End of Day by Day =/

I want to save people from torture because I'm a hero of justice?

My opinion are obviously better then other people opinions because I totally understood Neon genesis and am therefore a genius?

I'm a member of the BNP (Get out immigrants btw )
and it is in my nature to try and force my nonsensical beliefs down peoples throats?

By what you said
Your probably referring to someone not sure who though

anyway you always put your initial at the end every post why is that?

I'm gonna do it too cause I like it

GTO: The Early Years is my only concern. It clearly hasn't sold well (I'm on my own, unable to find anyone else to cry with) and it's already been a long time since volume 11 was supposed to released in May. Even if someone else does release the series, how long will it take for the next volume to be released?

It'd be cool if GTO (the sequel) gets picked up by someone new. I'd buy it again 'cuz Tokyopop's releases are full of typos and freudian slips. The fact a number of my volumes are in used condition is another good reason to sell and re-buy it.

Im not amused here and I take this as a personal attack, being an immigrant, non-white, non-native english speaker I resent BNP political views on immigrants.

I understand you're just trying to joke here, but learn a little restraint and tolerance. It will do you good.

The BNP will never be taken seriously as long as they maintain some of their racist policies.

Back on topic though......

Love Hina is safe? THANK GOODNESS!

Beck needs to be saved, but there is a surprisingly large amount of "meh" on the list of titles OOP for now.
Indeed. And that's the problem: a few years back Tokyopop did an ADV and flooded the market with crap. Now their future is uncertain.

Of the OOP titles I can see Love Hina being picked up by another publisher, but most of the rest will probably never be seen again.

I'd like to add here that Tramps Like Us is an absolutely fantastic little series and it's a shame to see it surrounded by all the also rans with its mediocre English title causing a lot of people to skip over it. Because of its demographic I don't see it ever being picked up again so if you want a look at something a little different I heartily recommend it.

It's a series aimed at older women with some unrealistic humour and tangled romance. The premise is that a successful workaholic woman "adopts" a strange man she finds on the streets, which leads to her quest for self discovery and makes her question the relationships people make. There's a little sneaky otaku humour in there and some silly over-exaggerated sight gags but it's also quite touching. There's even a little philosophy from time to time if you look for it.

I'm pretty sure it sold horribly as it was a complete pain to collect when it was coming out; nobody wanted to stock it and I'd often face long waits between books. I have to speak up for it now though. It's complete and worth a read if you don't mind that it's very much aimed at the ladies.

I was lead to believe that Ecole Du Ciel was a kodansha title. Any news on that? It had just finally crept back into Tokyopop's glacial schedule...

It's **** and goes for next to nothing on eBay. After half a volume, I never bothered reading the rest. The artwork is sketchy, giving it an unfinished look and making it hard to see what the hell is going on.

I was under the impression it was never going to be finished. I have all of it that was released until it went on indefinite hiatus but gave up on the idea of ever seeing what happened next.

Agreed, I picked the first volume up because I liked the cover, but I could barely make it through the book!

That's just Mikimoto's style. Personally, I love its look and got used to it after the first volume. But it was always a title that would be dropped at the first sign of trouble, setting up a series of niche interest outside of Japan. Confusing for a vaguely Gundam interested reader, absolutely impenetrable for most of everyone else.
