"The Wind Rises" Query

Hi peeps.. any signs of Ghibli's "The Wind Rises"? It's another one which seems to be in limbo, and one I'm really looking forwards to. Knowledge of it seemed to appear at about the same time as "From Up On Poppy Hill" and I both caught that at the cinema and enjoyed its transition to DVD. I know schedules are usually a bit all over the place when we're talking anime, but I would've expected to see some signs of it by now.. Has anyone found anything lurking in the shadows?

Studio Canal did confirm that it's coming in 2014 but other than that nothing new so far, I think they're probably going to leave it till after the Academy season, since now that the English dub is complete.

I queried this with them when I was asking about the Bluray renumbering and they said:

The Wind Rises is currently scheduled for release this spring/summer but unfortunately no further information can be given at this time as dates are yet to be finalised.

In short, they need to wait until they know whether they can put "Academy Award Nominee" or "Academy Award Winner" on the box? xD

Remember that the quote for "Spring/Summer" will be for a cinematic releases, and likely be mid summer (the last two releases have been late July or early August) now. If you want this as a home media release you won't see it until the Autumn.

Still, that is a *very* quick turnaround considering the film was only in Japanese cinemas last July (hence, why I'm not sure you thought this was in "limbo"). Remember, most high profile releases take 2-3 years to make it to our shores...

True Rob.. I expect you're about right on the timescale. Anime does take a long time to show up.. I seem to have been waiting all my life for Evangelion 3 (hehe). When I said limbo, it was just figurative frustration *^^*
