Funny you should say this, because on the new Haibane Renmei box set they've done precisely that. It's still got the old logo on it except that they've replaced the Established 1990 with Entertainment.

Sorry MVM, snappy logo won't make me part with my reddies, it's gonna be the best deal on the door.
 
I actually like the new logo, a realistic engraved-metal except the evil eye on top. It looks so cheap. The old one is very bland and it's an old style metal like made by a kid in photoshop and I don't get the font either.

To improve the new one.
1>Take off the evil-eyed M on top and
2>place the oblong from the old one and
3>finish it with the metallic shine

tada! a better improvement.

One of the rules of logo is never do a drastic change but change gradually over time so consumers won't fuzz about it.

I think MVM should create a new logo featuring a lion. Sure, they'll get sued by a certain major Hollywood studio and likely end up Gone With the Wind, but there's no such thing as bad publicity. :wink:

Seriously, I agree with Gawyn and Paul. The old logo was boring, while the new one has personality. Its impish grin is appropriate for the wide variety of anime titles that MVM releases. (BTW, does anyone know who designed it?)

Yep. MVM handle the day-to-day running of the UK Anime Club. So far as I am aware their new logo was not designed by one of the members of UKAC and if it was they are being very quiet about it. Certainly the first I heard about it was in Neo magazine.

The logo wouldn't be nearly as interesting without the face, IMHO. Which reminds me: WTFDaveMustaine said the logo resembles "a poor rip of the Jetix logo." Just because they both have faces? I don't see it. I think the new MVM logo has more in common with the Madman logo, which also has a face which is impishly meancing. For those who haven't seen it, it's available at the company's main Australian site or the site for its New Zealand division.
