The General Conversation Area

We had only black and white TV on an outdoor antenna at home until after I left for college... a glorious 6 local channels to choose from, and maybe 4 or 5 really fuzzy channels from Philadelphia, 80 miles away...

The thing is, I think there's TOO many channels now, well, especially with Sky and (I guess it's cable for you?). I just don't think it's necessary. I mean it's good to have a choice of different things, but there's repeats of channels, like you have ITV, then ITV+1, then ITV extra, I can't Believe It's Not ITV, etc, etc...

I watch exactly one thing on tv nowadays: old reruns of Top of the Pops, they're currently on 1985. There's the occasional documentary but other than that there's not much else I'd bother viewing.

Same, I'll catch the news occasionally, a bit of sport, the odd nature doc, but other than that, I'm not really interested.

I...Just...WHY?!

When I were a young lass, I WAS the remote...had to get off my butt and change the channel manually, on the TV itself!
When I was really young, around the same time your kids would be the remote, I remember when satalite was analogue. You'd try to get cartoon network or something only to be met with mostly static. We would solve this by stamping near the telly problem solved! Oh and you didn't choose the channels like sky today, you literally tuned the channel in like a radio

Back in the day when satelite dishes were about the same size as Jodrell Bank. Incedentally on a clear day, I can see that from my house...
