<a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/moslive/article-1024665/The-art-wine--manga-style.html"><em>The Daily Mail </em>have posted</a> a positive preview/feature on the wine-tasting manga "<strong><em>Kami No Shizuku</em></strong>" (a.k.a <em><strong>The Drops Of God</strong></em>), which seems to be set for a UK release (no release date provided) courtesy of <em>Manga Shakespeare</em> publisher <em>Self Made Hero</em>.
"The ten-volume series sees two brothers given the challenge of locating 12 legendary wines when their father, a wine critic, dies suddenly. Whichever son succeeds in the challenge inherits their father's &pound;9 million wine cellar."
Given the Daily Mail's reaction to manga in the past has been <a href="http://forums.animeuknews.net/album_page.php?pic_id=38">anything but positive</a>, their attempts here make for a refreshing change, especially given they are probably fighting against the prevalent notion amongst their readers that comics are supposed to be for kids only.

Expect scare stories "Evil comics promoting alcoholism!" from the said paper in the near future!

Obvious DM jabs aside, this is good news. Even the fandom seems to overlook the more 'fringe' manga titles (series aimed at salarymen, focusing on sports such as golf spring to mind) so any publicity for a series like this is a good thing.

I'm quite interested in reading this one actually.
 
the idea sounds like one of those adam sandlers(?) movies where he needs to get married to inherit some fortune...

I wish I could take that as a joke, but I can actually see it happening in the case of the Daily Mail.

Still it's nice to see attitudes towards manga progressing beyond the knee jerk "Oh god it's sadistic porn!" view. Hope it lasts.

No it isn't a joke. There are variations of manga for all walks of life in Japan, from children to grown men and women. You seem to have the common perception that comics are for kids and such but that stereotype does not exist in Japan.

And yes, Gawyn is right, there is all kinds of manga, including manga to teach economy or manga about cooking. This is just another layr of awesomeness to manga, IMHO.
 
Whatever it is, it sounds incredibly dry (ba doom tish).

The only papers I'd like to review anime or manga would be the broadsheets (The Times, The Guardian, The Scotsman, etc).

AHHHH!!! I remember reading this in Morning magazine a few years ago and loving it (and the sexy guy in glasses). Thoroughly recommend the series!!! Although I knew it more by its French subtitle, "Les Gouttes de Dieu".

Seriously though, it's really well drawn and a pleasure to read. Think "Yakitate Japan" for grown ups, with wine ^_~

(sorry for the necro, but I only just found out about it now - and I really do recommend it)
