The Credit Crunch

Just wondering how u guys are appoaching buying ur anime in this current climate. have u guys had to change ur spending/buying habits because of the recession? I haven't personally been spending quite as much money as before(mainly due to unfavourable exchange rates putting me off more expensive boxsets)but i will just be buying cheaper series and films instead.

it doesn't really affect me because i'm still in 6th Form, and our family as a whole is doing fine

but i guess if i was a Uni student or something it would affect me greater

My brains hurt calculating how much more money and/or stuff I would have if the exchange rate wasn't in the toilet for the last ever and the foreseeable ever.

I have always managed my accounts and stay to my budgets so the recession hasn't changed that. I have less money available to spend on luxuries so I haven't brought much anime lately. If buying a series I still wait for the boxset and I buy all from online - it's cheaper there :p

Nope, I still buy anime DVDs for 99p, box sets for £18 and manga volumes for £4-5. I'm just naturally smart like that, tbh.

We're doing alright, pretty much the same as when we first moved into our house. Me and my partner don't go out drinking or anything like that. I have no bad habits (drink, smoking, drugs, bad food, etc) so I pretty much still manage to buy quite freely.

My problem is that I seem to keep finding new hobbies, eg manga, which I never read much before, so now I'm trying to balance between manga and anime.

Importing doesn't seem all that viable unless they just aren't releasing an anime over here.

I'm very tempted to import any Monster dvds that are released in the US, since it doesn't seem to be getting a UK release any time soon.

Ok fess up where are you buying your anime DVDs?

Anime-On-Line

thanks i'll be on here all night now!

And they say anime fans have no lives. How wrong people are about anime watchers!

Btw, it always amuses/annoys me how, despite me posting on a regular basis in the sales thread, people still ask about cheap anime. Go to ******* Specsavers.

The main thing for me is I have pretty much stopped importing direct from the US for a couple of reasons 1) the exchange rate is just not good and 2) with so much now being released in complete collections and half series sets little, would come in under the duty limit even if the exchange rate was better. Which means even though it feels like I am paying more most of my purchases are made from PlayUSA and Axelmusic nowadays as it is just not worth the risk of paying extra for the duty. Also second spin and Play/Amazon traders get checked out for stuff that I was not interested in enough to pre-order as they can sometimes be cheaper than even PlayUSA (which seem to be getting bad at stocking things). I have even cancelled some PlayUSA orders and moved to Play traders like moviemars as they were cheaper and I was fed up waiting for PlayUSA to get it back in stock.

So in effect I am probably spending more but also getting more. With the half sets it feels like I am spending more in one go but in comparison I am getting a whole series for like £35-£60 (depending on if PlayUSA can do it for under £18 and the title, based on 24-26 episodes) compared to £70-£100 for six individual discs.

Sorry for the resurrect.

I'll put it this way... in the last two years I have bought: Ouran High School Host Club vol 1 and 2... yea. And that was when they were on special discount price.
Can't really afford to buy anime, or figures, or games. The few games I got were via (very painful) trade in.
This is of course due to the fact that prior to credit crunch I was a temp, and during credit crunch I've been a temp very regularly out of work... >_<

could we really say that were now better off, since VAT is going back on the rise. I think the best bit to "chew off" is the collections that companies like FUNi have minimised packaging to many titles. I obtained so recently a 'complete collection' of Shana that was only in an inch think jewel case but still had all the same content
