If Britain were to dub Anime then for starters some of the female characters would sound cuter, secondly we wouldn't have to invert a car scene so that the steering wheel is on the left and they are driving on the right hand side of the road. Also British english is the proper use of the English language (Duh), so why not?

Although I don't really care, the dubbings already fine as it is ^_^.
 
Accents don't matter, Acting ability does. The problem with dubs isn't that this or that accent is annoying, they're just imperfect performances from poorly supervised actors in an environment with a very small budget and the attitude that dubs will be ignored by the hardcore, DVD funders and required by essentially undiscerning Cable-TV freeloaders.

Considering that the British voice acting industry is virtually non-existent, it would still be trumped by the American one, which in turn will always be bettered by a culture that routinely puts out animated shows across a range of genres (as opposed to Comedy, which dominates American animation - accordingly, Anime Comedies have TERRIBLE dubs, because the actual talent is involved in America's homegrown stuff. Everyone's a Family Guy reject). The talent to make good Japanese animation dubs exists on both sides of the Atlantic, and when the will and the money has come together, it HAS happened.

There is no such thing as 'proper' English though if there were, it's worth considering America has been more successful in staying closer to earlier Englishes / Standardizing (Suffocating) its Language than the British have been.
 
There is nothing wrong with english language dubs the way they are today. The fact remains, that regardless of accents, the quality of anime dubbing these days is at an all time high. If you look to other regions for dubbing anime, you'll encounter people who are not as good at it as we are used to, and we will get substandard dubs.

I'd rather have a quality dub with an american accent than a substandard dub with a british accent.

If there isn't a dub track available to a UK distributor who wants to make one, they should get whatever cast fits their price, and the demands of the title, be they American, Canadian, British, Singaporean, or whatever.
