The Christmas Thread

Merry Christmas everyone :D

Going to be spending the week relaxing and playing on my new PS3, after I finish wrapping the remainder of presents today lol

I'll be spending it with my family, although this is the first time in years that we haven't gone away or had anyone around for Christmas, so most likely playing some games with my brother or watching some films.

Merry Christmas!

Aren't 31st, 1st and 2nd all public holidays in Scotland? I'd hope you would be getting overtime for 31st/1st at least.

They are, but over the past few years, they have also become days people work on as well. We've not actually been close on any of those days for the past....4 years? at least. Heck, we're open 10-8 on new years day, so that just goes to show how much they think it's worth working. I still don't but oh well. The impression i'm getting is that i get a day in lieu, and pay and a half/double pay the whole day of new years day, so it might be ok overall, and it's only a 5 hour shift i'm doing anyways. So there we go.

Also, as it is the 25th now, Merry Christmas to you all! Noone is up yet, so i'm doing the lazy thing and staying in bed a little longer.

Yesterday was my worst Christmas ever.

We went out for dinner to the same place we did last year, they were absolutely brilliant and had been anytime we'd been, but this year was a totally different story. We got there about 15 minutes early so were asked to sit through in the bar until the table was ready, that was fine so we sat down and ordered some drinks. 40 minutes later still waiting on the table, my Dad went out for a fag and saw that the room was half empty, we asked why we hadn't got our table yet and were told it'd be another 5 minutes, so 10 minutes go by before we complain again and are eventually told we can go through. They take our food order straight away but not a drinks order, we then notice that two of the places at the table are missing side plates and knives (and a christmas cracker). 15 minutes go by before we eventually get someone to take our drinks order, then it was about another half an hour at least before our starters arrived and they came out with a couple of wrong dishes. The soup came without the bread it was supposed to have and without a spoon, my Mum had to get up and go get a spoon herself, we said about the lack of bread a couple times but it never arrived. We all finished our starters in about 5 minutes, I wasn't even hungry at this point just fed up waiting, my Mum and gran didn't eat theirs because the melon was rock hard and we complained again about our drinks order still having not arrived and at the overall lack of service and how unnorganised the place was. Eventually the drinks came and it was then a waiting game for the mains, after 45 minutes we decided enough was enough and got up to leave. We complained further and were lucky enough to get our deposit back. Everyone in the place was the same though, they were all complaining and we were the first to walk out, others were getting ready to do the same. The whole place was just an absolute shambles and we're never going out for Christmas dinner, or back to there in general, again. It's a shame too, the place used to be absolutely fantastic and was perfect last year for Christmas, but they're under new owners now and they just have no clue what they're doing, the staff all looked like wee boys plucked from high school and put into their first job, one of the bar staff actually told some people that he had only started working there on Friday. It just ruined Christmas for us and we were positively seething at it all.

Ouch. That does sound horrible.

We were originally planning on eating out, but decided against it when we visited the place a few days before and saw how packed it was.

Really sorry to hear that.
I usually host a Xmas party at mine, with some ex-pats friends or just some random strangers recruited at Couch surfing (which I've just deleted my profile earlier today), but this time, none of my usual Xmas friends were coming as they have all been busy with having babies or going to visit the family abroad.

Luckily, Xmas was saved by a friend who was coming back from studying abroad and need a place to crash, as there's no public transport on Xmas day here in London, and we had a great meal, brazilian-style, with a roast turkey and accompaniments. Then we watched Doctor Who and played games the whole day. We setup the xmas tree (which i completely forgot to setup before xmas).

Not a bad day =)
