The best shows you haven't seen (or read)

State Alchemist
Based on your own impressions of previews or reviews, other people's recommendations, "big" titles, etc, what are the shows that you feel are most notably missing from your "watched" (or read) list?

If I was picking one from each category, the anime would be Clannad, and the manga would be Berserk.

Anime: Mushishi, Haibane Renmei, GTO and Genshiken.

There's probably a couple more. I'm undecided on the order in which I would view them. The order I listed, backwards, maybe. If it can be shows we've started, I'd chuck Utena, LoGH and CCS into the mix.

Manga: Astro Boy, Pluto and Gantz.

Astro Boy to get "in the know" to read Pluto and Gantz... because its Gantz.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the most obvious one. There are other popular or highly regarded shows I haven't watched, such as Macross and the original Gundam, but I'm somewhat less sure of liking them.

Oh, just thought of Nana. I really want to see it but importing Viz's four £30 box sets seems a bit daunting. I can never seem to find a gap in my budget to start the series.

In terms of Manga, I'd love to read Beserk and Fullmetal Alchemist. Space and cost, however, stand in the way, and scanlations just don't do it for me.

Incidentally, I heartily recommend Pluto. Prior knowledge of Astro Boy isn't necessary.

Manga: X, Nodame Cantabile, Bakuman, HayateXBlade, Usagi Drop.
Edit: knew I'd miss something
Anime: Nodame, Aria, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross: do you remember love, Heartcatch Precure!

As I had a break for awhile I still haven't seen as much compared to you guys but the ones that I haven't seen that I see recommendations for everywhere are as follows (the list could be longer but here are the main ones!)

Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, Hellsing Ultimate

Manga: Berserk (although I have this, I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet!), 20th Century Boys

Well the thing I've had most recommendations about that I haven't watched yet is probably Great Teacher Onizuka.I keep meaning to start it but never get around to it.

Hmm. Patlabor the TV series and Urusei Yatsura are probably top of the list, but Wings of Honneamise, Denno Coil, Maison Ikkoku, Kare Kano, Ristorante Paradiso and GitS 2: Innocence loom large on the horizon as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy Patlabor, but the CPM box art for the dvds is horrendous.

Edit: Oh and Princess Mononoke. I own the dvd for feck's sake, it's embarrassing.

Defeats the purpose of picking one
Well yes, it does, but few people seem to have actually gone along with the exercise like that. :p Possibly my fault for using the word "shows" in the OP, I did really mean to ask people to pick just one of each as it tends to make things a little more interesting and revealing.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Silent Mobius
Shin Mazinger
Patlabor
Dominion Tank Police
Cutie Honey
Gundam (pretty much everything aside from the first 3 movies)

Excluding anything that has not been officially translated into English,

Anime: Urusei Yatsura TV series (I own the OVAs and movies though), Kimagure Orange Road TV series (though I own the OVAs and movies), Gundam - I have only watched Gundam Wing (very good), 1/2 of Gundam Seed (poor) and the movie Char's Counterattack (very good).

Manga: Berserk (read first 2 volumes only), 20th Century Boys, Death Note (watched the anime only)

Hayate the Combat Butler is the show I think would be the best. Others that I think could be particularly good might be, but are not limited to:
MariaHolic,
He Is My Master,
You're Under Arrest season 2 onwards.

In all of those cases, ME WANT DUB.

The show that I keep getting recommended is Great Teacher Onizuka. Problem there is that I don't like the look of the premis or art style. Although I have been very mistaken in these regards before.

Show that I have ready to go that I have high-hopes for would be:
Clannad,
Genshiken 2,
Hetalia S2 onwards,
Soul Eater,
Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple,
UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie (which I have been sitting on for ages as it is possibly the last of that type of anime that I havn't seen and is dubbed, a sad thing indeed).

Honerable mention goes to Ultimate Muscle, which was my #1 'show I want to watch' up until it finally started airing on 'Kix!' Tis pretty damn good. :p

The bull-bus aside, Melody of Oblivion has been purged from my mind, so I guess that qualifies?

Mostly, there's a whole lot of shoujo/josei/girly-**** I've been avoiding post-MI 'cause I don't like crying, or feeling like dropping due to my emotions being toyed with.

Boys Over Flowers
NANA
Honey & Clover
Nodome-something
...probably a whole bunch of other **** my brain isn't helping me remember.

Mostly Key ******** and things like Legend of the Pretentious Heroes, but I'll get around to them one day. Right now I have Utena and Dennou Coil, don't get as much praise as most shows but I've never seen a bad word been said about them.

Manga: Naoki Urasawa works beside Pluto, but I have little interest in Monster or 20th Century Boys, I did start both but I got bored. Read most of the "must read" series and a few inbetween, I'm done with manga at the moment I have a few things on the back burner but by the time I get around to reading them they would have been deleted months prior.

Anything with more than 200 episodes behind it, when I think of shows like that I get overwhelmed at the sheer scope.
All 35 of them, and you'd probably avoid most anyway, on acount of being realy old and being realy kiddy. Also being immposible to find, 1k+ eps and ending in the '70s does not help.
