The author of "Rurouni Kenshin charged

People have pointed out that alot of the type of content hes been arrested for was only made illegal in 2014. It's very possible hes owned it for awhile. While based on our culture its majorly wrong it was acceptable in Japan for a long time.

I don't think people should condemn the work just because of the author.

I think the author of Toriko got prison once for actually paying for a young child for the night, and his manga while put on hiatus did resume after he was out. I doubt this will affect Kenshin much.

The statement attributed to him at arrest is more problematic than the actual charge. It does dismay me as someone who likes the Kenshin series.

I hope they investigate him properly to find if he's abused kids or not and him saying he has great regret you don't go and watch real kids being interfered with.he could of just got off with lolicon hentai since just a bunch of lines and before anyone jump to conclusions I'm not in lolicon.

Well, 16 according to sources (which I think is the average AoC in most of the civilised world) so not really a young child. I think this case is probably more damaging. However the media is very sensationalist about this kind of thing, I think it's a good idea to wait and see before passing too harsh judgement. The statements refer to "nudity" and "naked girls" which for all we know could be pictures from nudist camps rather than actual child porn. If he's actually assaulted any children then yeah, that's terrible and he should have the book thrown at him, but I don't think it's been suggested yet that he has, or even that he's viewed that happening.

People in porn have to be 18+ under that age is illegal in most countries.

He is bound by the rules of the country he lives in. Underage Porn wasn't banned till 2014

Japan to Ban Child Pornography

Like I said in terms of possession he may of owned stuff from before they were made illegal.

I think people are right that many are overreacting, and we should wait till an official verdict into the case with proper statements are given before condemning someone.

Actually child porn was banned in Japan in 1999, which is quite shocking as most countries had banned it by the 1970's. Bizarrely possession of child pornography wasn't banned in Japan until 2014 (which is the law you're referring to), however the law wasn't enacted until the following year apparently so people in possession of material could get rid of it. That just astounds me.

The police caught him with DVDs, so I think it's hard to believe Watsuki bought the material legally. I kind of doubt such a niche product like that was being produced on that format in the late 1990's.

Stuff like Junior Idol material is still sold in some shops in Japan. It's a broad genre which covers prepubescent music groups, but also photobooks and child model DVDs, who pose in the same way a gravure idol would. Essentially it's a way to sell quasi child porn and get past the censors. Despite the hyperbole you may read elsewhere, this material is kind of niche. The only place I saw it was in a used bookstore in Jinbocho in Tokyo.

But going back to the case, I think this is a real kick in the guts for a lot of western fans as a fair few of them came to love anime through the Rurouni Kenshin TV series back in the late 1990's.
