Tenchi Muyo, Episode confusion.

Vampire Ninja
Well i finaly decided to rewatch this series after only seeing a few of the episodes when i was younger, but i ran into confusion straight away.

I looked up Tenchi Muyo on the anime list site i use, but it said watch the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki series. Can anyone tell me the order in which to watch all the different episode titles? :p

Right then... * deep breath* ...everything you ever wanted to know about Tenchi but were too confused to ask.

http://www.astronerdboy.com/tenchi/Sect ... .html#cont

( And probably still will be confused about afterwards. )

Basically, you watch this...

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/742331/T ... oduct.html

then this...

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3325065/ ... oduct.html

For the original continuity.

these...

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3326886/ ... oduct.html

can be watched anytime after the first boxset, as they arn't part of that continuity, but are actually part of the 'Tenchi Universe' continuity, which is a retelling of the same story as the Ryo-ohki boxsets but different. ( Confused yet? )

OMG life saver! :p

So basicaly its the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki series
Then Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki 2
Then Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki 3
Yes?

Right, Tenchi comes in Three main series. Tenchi Muyo!, Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo.

Tenchi Muyo! are the original OVA's. You have three main blocks, OVA1, OVA2 and OVA3 which was just released a month back.

Tenchi Universe uses the characters from the OVA's and retells the story a little bit. This is a 26 episode TV series.

Tenchi in Tokyo is the third and final series which again uses the same characters but with greater emphisis on comedy. Most fans do not rate this series.

The Ryo Ohki series that you are reffering to is the first OVAs. You also have the three movies too. I'm not sure on the availability of the DVD's, you'll have to check that out for yourself. But some can be a pain to track down.

Ah that's a point, thanks for clearing that up a bit.

What I should have added to my post was that the ones that I listed were the only ones you can get on region 2 at the moment. ( That i'm aware of. )

The only ones i can find in store at the moment are as you pointed out. The OVA's and the movies. Universe and Tokyo were released but i think the license ran out. Geneon did release Universe and Tokyo Complete collections which you can get from UP1 for £25 each (but they are region 1) so its either them or a waiting game to see if they get a UK release.

And then when you have watched them all you have the spin-off's to watch.

My favourite being Tenchi Muyo GXP
What other spin-off's are there? I only know of GXP, which by the way, is an awsome series.

GXP is an actual spin off of the OAV in the same univese, about 4 years after the 3rd OAV

Then there is the Pretty Sammy series that is a complete spinoff with sasami as a magical girl

I've had a flick threw them a few times in the shops. Don't know why I haven't bought them yet. Guess it's another thing to add to my wish list.
::sigh::

You'll have to let me know if their any good.

I would have thought the "no need for" series would be my favourite too. Ah well, guess I'll be purchasing them at some point (when my wallet allows)!

WHY GOD!! WHY DIDN'T I WIN THE LOTTORY LAST NIGHT!! WHY??!!!*%#!!

I was sure I had it that time too... n_n'

GXP takes place a year after the events in OVA 3 ;)

Both series were done by Hitoshi Okuda, one of the artists from the original OVA's so the quality over both series is fantastic. All the events and stories seem like they could actually take place in the show, which is a great thing to have.

Must admit I do like the art work in the Tenchi OVA's and from what I've seen of the manga. I love the fact that it's the same in both too. I bet you can really see the anime playing out in the manga.

I stands it and I can't stands it no more!! Looks like there'll be something on the way to me threw the post on Payday XD

Thanks for the info, i've long been confused to when i was looking in to buying the first series of Tenchi Muyo that was shown on Cartoon Network back in the day but couldn't work out which one it was or what to get first.
Shame they're so damn expensive, off to ebay i go lol.

Most of the ones on Ebay are fake, but i've seen a few pop up latley. If you're going to buy a fake you may aswell download them. But really, buy the originals or i may have to kill you.
