On July 11, 2011, Taiji was arrested for interference with a flight attendant due to an incident on an airplane en route from Japan to Saipan.[9][10] He faces federal charges in the United States for this.[9] On July 14, Taiji was taken to an intensive care unit after attempting suicide by hanging himself, delaying his court appearance. He would die days later on the 17th.

If you read the link the 'interferance' was the fact he had assaulted her.

Local media reported that Sawada was arguing with a female passenger, and is suspected for acting violently, as he hit the air plane window, and kicked the front seat on the air plane heading to Saipan. Reportedly, he also kicked a female crew member who was trying to stop him.

Sad news, presumably he didn't attempt to kill himself just as a result of an isolated assault allegation so I can see more being made of the story.
