Suggestions - Good anime before 2000

My preferences are more like "real" things with action and blood.

Have you ever watched Fist of the North Star? It's hard to get more blood and action than that one.

Another great series with blood and action is Tiger Mask (first one, avoid the sequel). But it's a 60's series, so animation and drawings are basics at best.
If you liked Hajime No Ippo then Ashita no Joe is a must.
Area 88 is a fine OVA from the 80's, with a lot of action and blood. It's a story of mercenaries in the Middle-East.

I can second most things already listed, a few of my favorites to add are:

Movies:

Locke the Superman
Crusher Joe
Odin
Ideon
Robot Carnival
The Five Star Stories

TV:

Dougram
Layzner
Votoms
Dragonar
Brain Powered
Brave series
Zambot 3
Rayearth

OVA:

Birth
Detonator Orgun
Gall Force
D1 Devastator
AD Police
Merrowlink
Ariel
808 TTS Airbats
Fight! Iczer 1 & 3
Madox 01

Plus a whole lot more I could list, there is a lot of very good anime from 20 - 40 years ago, that you should have a look at :thumb:

Thanks for the names, will check them out later.

I think no one has mentioned until now Golgo 13. I have the movie and special/ova here to watch and I think they might worth seeing. Am I correct?

Then I strongly suggest to put Fist of the North Star on top of your priorities.

Their style is definetely what you are looking for. But usually they are not considered to be the best anime out there. I think the movie is fine and the OVA is really good, but I'm in the minority, most people think they are bad. There are much better old shows to watch.
So I would say something like this: give them a try when you are drunk, without expecting something great.

ahah I might get drunk before see it hen lol

I dont expect anything really great from old shows because I've seen better things from the ones nowadays. The thing about the old is just really being nostalgic and maybe having some more action/gore/blood than stuff from nowadays. Plus I quite enjoy old animation even if its nothing special, which usually it isnt.

I don't want to start an arguement, but that is a rather sweeping statement, as I said before there is a lot of very good from 20 - 40 years ago you just have to watch some of it, there was good and bad just like today. Plus you will never see better animation than in a lot of movies and OVA's made at the height of the Japanese bubble economy in the 80's such as Akira, Royal Space Force, The Five Star stories, Laputa etc, where they threw huge amounts of Yen at production to get guys to paint it all by hand.

I love the animation from those movies you have mentioned to be honest. I enjoy old things but i dont think they can surprise me these days, maybe at the time they came out i dont know but probably not today. Still I like to watch them and theres still a lot of old things i wanna watch and i know i will love it. I just hope there are some titles that will make my jaw falls eheh

Just watched Riding Bean and it was great. Better than I was expecting. It was fun. Now I'm excited and might get back to watch You're under arrest.
