Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

I know we have an SFIV topic, but that's regarding a game that's still some time away from release. So instead, I'd like to talk about (arguably) the best and most played Street Fighter at present (especially at tournaments). Some of my friends got me into 3S at their university since they often have friendly competitions there on the game.

I'm an Akuma player personally. My two close friends use Ibuki and Chun Li who are both great character in their own right so I have lots of regular competition to help improve. So does anyone else frequently play this game? Jump into the discussion, tell me who's your main character, why you enjoyed 3S and how much/little you kicked ass.

PS. Anyone who has played 3S has to watch this battle.

This game is proper marmite.........alot of people love it and a lot of people hate it more so than any other fighter out there. For me there is just not enough to it. Not as many charecters only one super you can choose in a match..................chunli players sitting there all day then doing lk super.

I dunno like most people i know i hated it at first then gave it a chance played it for a bit thought it was good then very quickly got bored of it.

The fighting game players generally like it, this is evident in the fact that SFIII is featured in the Evo tournaments. However I understand where you're coming from, Capcom even admit that SFIII was a little "too different" from SFII. As for super specials, each character only had one but you could choose which one they would have for that match during character selection. It made things more tactical, since you knew what special your opponent had and vice versa.

As for Chun Li, they don't just sit around all day, I've never seen anyone use that playing style. Chun Li is top tier in SFIII and she has some deadly moves so it would be a massive waste of her ability to just sit somewhere and spam LK. It's not like spamming LK is effective anyway, you'd get murdered trying to do that newbie ****, this isn't SFII.

Anyway sorry for reviving this slightly old topic, I've been away for a while and would like to respond to some posts people have made in my topics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS5peqApgUA I know u have seen this match a thousand times before and I know chunli loses but watch the entire of the last round and look how conservitive chunli is playing.

Just sits there lk, super bang............This years world evo championships has just finished 6 out of the last 8 were chunli players all doing the same thing.......just sitting there waiting for there oppnent to attack so they could hit them with the light kick...........its just boring to me. I dunno each to there own eh.

Hahaha! Oh my God, when did everyone become such a bunch of wimps. I love how everyone is cheering while these two guys just sit there attacking thin air for like four minutes. Oh man, Tokido slapped the **** out of Justin with those juggles. I'm guessing Justin is using Chun because I haven't seen him use Urien in the past.

Anyway, I have no idea why they're doing that stupid **** because I personally don't see the advantages, I've seen a lot of match videos and this is the first time I've had to sit down and watch two people attack nothing for half of the match. Perhaps people have only just started adopting this new tactic, that could explain why I've not seen anyone use it until today. Most people use Chun Li at BoD because she's top tier, otherwise they pick Yun (or was it Yang?).

If chunli has super bar meter full she has a massive advantage..........what a lot of chun players were doing at evo were running away building meter and then waiting for there oppnent to attack so chunli could beat there attack out with light kick (fastest move in the game) when u hit them with lk you do super........then u run away again and build meter....rinse reapeat..most chun players are boring.

I have CVS2 as well, but find the amount of characters overwhelming. I can't be bothered trying to master more than one fighting game at a time, so I'm focussing my attention on 3S whenever I get some spare time to practice. I'm thinking of heading down to Trocadero on Firdays as a lot of the top players meet up down there, might as well learn from the best by getting my ass kicked by them.
