SquareEnix to release japanese exclusive games in Europe

Kh2.co.uk is reporting the following -

"In a recent interview, the president of Square-Enix Europe revealed that they would be releasing a dozen titles next year in the European market.

Other than Final Fantasy XII he mentioned that they would also release some titles that were previously Japanese exclusives. He did not reveal what games would be on the list, but some games that have been stuck in Japan are: Final Fantasy VII, X & X-2 International, Itadaki Street, and Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix.

Now remember, there have been no revealed titles, and this currently only stands for Europe. We can probably expect more news as the European release of Final Fantasy XII approaches."

What do people think?
are u guys interested in getting any of those titles?

IF it does happen (fingers crossed) I'm definately getting itdaki but dont know about the rest. It bodes well for us getting kingdom hearts 2 final mix though ^_^

I cannot for the life of me imagine why the games that site lists would ever be the ones Square-Enix-Europe brings over. They're almost entirely redundant in the UK market, as the FF Internationals and KH Final Mix are simply the same old games with a few extra bosses and English voices (i believe in the case of FFX international, The European version is practically identical because the Dark Aeons were added especially for it, sort of as an apology for the atrocious Apartment Block sized bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The only difference surely is the FFX-2 hinting end scene). As for Itadaki Street, it sounds frankly yawnful.

On one level, I suspect this is ******** talk for "we're releasing Final Fantasy III on DS next year" because of course, that's the FF we never got. There are far, far more significant titles we missed out over the years than the ones KH2.co.uk mentions. FF Tactics, Most of the SaGa series, the ENTIRE Dragon Quest series, Many from the Seiken Densetsu series, Chrono Cross, All but one of the Front Mission series, Half of the Star Ocean series, Radiata Stories, Dewprism (threads of fate) and countless others. And from these, kh2.co.uk choose a board game, and four ageing games we already practically have? They should go get new content writers if you ask me.

And no, it doesn't bode well for us getting KH 2 - Final Mix at all. And the few changes between the Final Mix and European versions are never too important anyway.

edit: they could quite easily be hinting that they're bring Mobile games to Europe. To which I say: "MEH"

This is exciting for me, 12 titles? That's a nice start! I've hated SEE for a while now, and they might be about to turn my opinions around.

All those titles listed won't be in the releases though, because they're Japanese special editions of the English special editions of the Japanese games. And FFVII is on a dead console.

*edit* the "Japanese only" part of the quote confused me, as there are plenty games getting released in the US but not here, but it turns out he actually said "titles that we have never released in Europe", meaning it could easily be games released in the US, making the scope even wider. This is good news, definately, as there are plenty games out there that SEE overlooked.

No, releases of games that haven't been released here. the person who quoted the re-releases was just an American who misread the article.

You're misunderstanding me. The person on that Kingdom Hearts site assumed that all SE games released in America were released in Europe, and therefore thought the games being mentioned were previously Japan exclusives. This is not the case, and the titles listed are probably the least likely to be released as they are named international versions because they ARE international versions, aka the versions we got, sometimes with one or two tweaks.

So basically I'm saying the titles most likely to be released are completely new games that haven't made it to Europe (check Square Enix USA's site for a shedload of examples), and not special editions of already released games.

I did a little digging around and this is what i came up with.

# Final Fantasy 13
# Final Fantasy Versus 13
# Final Fantasy Agito 13
# Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings
# Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children Complete
# Dirge of Cerberus - Lost Episode: Final Fantasy 7
# Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7

My source http://www.ffinsider.net/news/1163930066.php

This is just for japan btw but looks like square is getting way ahead of themselves

Well, here's a list of SE titles that went to America but skipped Europe in the past year or so:

Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria and Lenneth
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Grandia III
Romancing SaGa
Radiata Stories
Fullmetal Alchemist games

Titles from that selection, I'd say are most likely. I'm hoping for a Grandia III release. I love Grandia! But if they throw some retro games into Europe, such as Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, and older DQ games (not sure how likely that is, the PSOne is undeniably a dead console), then I'd be even happier!

I'd be extremely interested in Square-Enix games getting released, but I doubt the ones speculated are going to be the ones for the reasons everyone's already mentioned.

There's got to be more to Square than The Bouncer and Banal Fantasy XXXVIIITedium, I can remember a time when they actually did something else..

Hmm, except they seem to have gotten rid of the Parasite Eve license, the pillocks.

There are so many long running RPG/RPGish series that could be released yet we've only just had our first Dragon Quest.

Anyhow, if anyone gets more info on this development there'll be plenty of interested parties *nudge nudge*.
