Yet again, the end of the Spring Season overlaps the start of the Summer Season. Undaunted, the writers at Anime UK News are back to share their thoughts on the (mostly finished) series that caught their attention – and the odd few that didn’t. Some surprises here! And – as we have different tastes and…

I found this season a bit of an odd one. I enjoyed so many shows as I was watching during the season, but the vast majority had either poor or unsatisfactory endings! A lot were due to the series' ongoing mangas and them getting second seasons, but some were not. I think the best was Insomniacs After School although even that wasn't perfect with the big climax coming about halfway through and then a small epilogue cum recap. What did you think of it @Demelza since you mentioned being worried in the piece?
Definitely a better season than Winter though, although lots of 8s and no 9s!

The one show not mentioned in the piece that I think deserves one is The Dangers in My Heart. It started off with the male lead, Kyotaro, being a bit creepy, but he gets better especially as he interacts more with Anna, the female lead, he comes out of his shell more and we learn later on why he acted in the way he did, which adds a bit more depth to his character and feels a lot more clever on the part of the writer rather than a "bit" that just gets dropped after the initial attention grabbing in early chapters.
It now sits 3rd for the season on MAL behind only the hype train that was Oshi No Ko and the juggernaut that is Demon Slayer!
It jumped a whole point from episode 1 by the end, and the score even dropped after 2 and 3.

I wasn't a huge fan of how they handled the epilogue, but given we did get a confession scene out of it, I'm not too upset by it ending where it did and I suppose it's conclusive enough where even without a Season 2 it ended better than other series like it often do. Plus I have already bought every volume currently available in Japanese so I have the added bonus of the fact I will just be binging through that.

I have been a big fan of The Dangers in My Heart as well, much more than I expected to be given those opening episodes. Totally agree with you that his interactions with Anna and how he comes to understand himself gives him a lot of depth and gives the audience an easy way to excuse his earlier behaviour. Certainly if not for Insomniacs/Galaxy Next Door/Yamada-kun it would have been one of my favourite romcoms this season and I'm really happy it's getting a S2. :)
