Sonic X Mario!

Well thats not something i expected to see at the moment =/. Mario and Sonic team up? i wonder what that will achieve.

They're not teaming up, they're COMPETING.

And the five year old within me is going to buy this game and prove that Sonic is better than Mario.

Ahhh Competing, i see. Sounds more like it actually. The age long battle of sonic verses mario can finally be decided then heh.

It's still Mario and Sonic in the same game. This will sell by the bucketloads - Sega and Nintendo are going kaching to the bank!

Sonic will always be better than Mario despite the games! :D

STH is out on DVD yesterday!

/Random Sonic fact

Sonic is a better character than Mario, but Mario has been in FAR better games. True, he's been in about triple the number, but at least some of the good ones have been released since 1995. 3D Sonic games make me bleed.

Hell no, Sonic was better when he didn't have that ****** attitude to attract idiotic 12 year old fans. "Yo mayn, let's get out and go!.... race."

So basically, up until the point that he started speaking? i.e. The Sonic cartoons? He was far better off as a mute, blue guy who just ran a lot.

Sonic's had a bad run recently, but the Sonic Adventure games, and the Secret Rings, are great.

Sonic's... always had that attitude! Well, he was a more mature character in STC, but it was implied in the games (manuals and all that) and the cartoons, the American comics...

Also, I can't believe you call Sonic's voice annoying when this thread is equally about Mario =P

But that's the product of American marketing and then (Mean Bean Machine, Spinball) Sega of America. Even the game manuals have little to do with their official Japanese equivilents (Robotnik? Eggman? The west created a whole background to Sonic and Robotnik's past that Eggman doesn't have... and they created several different versions as well!). 'Sonic the Hedgehog with Attitude' was an American idea... all there really is in the games themselves is Sonic's finger wagging routine :p

Though I'm ashamed to admit it, the UK's 'Sonic the Comic' was actually not that bad. I'm getting nostalgic for the old blue one, as I'm dredging up my old stuff whilst my mum moves out... so long SEGA Mega Drive II! so long 11 Mega Drive games that may just be selling on a popular auction site right now!

Whoah there, don't go think you can lecture me about Sonic =P

Yes, there were a lot of ideas that were tagged onto the American version of Sonic, but because we didn't have the internet or otaku who would complain about the slightest edit, it was accepted as canon back when it was about. Now Sonic canon is a tricky business, I can count... eight different versions off the top of my head, and even the games have inconsistencies (almost all of Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles was set on The Floating Island/Angel Island, but in Sonic Adventure it was a large rock which you could walk over in a few seconds). Anyway.
What I'm trying to say is a lot of Sonic fans like the old "hedgehog with attitude" idea, as it's what they grew up with and certainly led to a lot of good stories (such as the american comics, still going strong). The original TV show, titled merely STH, has a hugely dedicated fanbase who believe it's the best representation of Sonic. Shockingly, I haven't seen it but I'm getting the box set.
I'm basically saying the American Sonic wasn't all that bad, and in many cases it isn't seen as uncanonical (I hate that word, it makes you sound like an obsessed fan... maybe I am.)
I'm a bit confused actually. First someone was complaining that in the recent games Sonic has been "cool", now someone's complaining that the "cool Sonic" idea was tagged onto the American release of the older Mega Drive games... :?

Bleh, anyway. STC wasn't just "not that bad", it was awesome! Kid's comics didn't get much better, it had a continuing plot and loads of great characters. The American comics, still going strong, are quite different but still pretty good.

And Vice Versa. Unless we're talking about anything post 1995, in which case, I don't know because I don't want to know :p

The Sonic series hasn't worsened as much as people say, putting Shadow and the 360 game aside. There has been a few great 3D titles.

Anyway, Sonic probably doesn't seem cool anymore because you're not 7 anymore =P

You guys do realise this actual topic is actually about Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games.

and in the battle of Sonic Vs. Mario i do like the Blue Blur Then "Its Me, Maarioo"
