Skate 3 - Multiplayer Questions

Been thinking about getting Skate 3 for a while as I enjoyed the first one and found out a mate of mine has 3 on the Xbox also, but I have some questions about the multiplayer.

Does it have a free roam where you can just go around finding spots and just having a lol or does it have set areas with time limits? I dont like all these mini game type things where you have to beat each others score, think they get boring.
 
From what I remember it has a free roam mode, I do definetly remember that it has people from your friendslist who have played the SKATE games popping up as random skaters whilst your playing single player.
 
Is it worth getting? Think i can get it for about 10 quid so its not too much.

Finding different skate spots looks pretty fun from what ive seen on youtube, but im not sure.
