SHOCK! HORROR! Disappointment..... S.A. liscence

I was really excited when I found out that the S.A. anime series had been liscensed then recently when looking round an anime new site I saw that there was an R1 release.

I was so excited!

I had watched the seires and couldn't wait to buy the release. Then to my horror I saw that it was SUB ONLY! My heart sank. I really loved the series and am building my manga collection of the series but a Sub only release isn't enough for me. I am a Dub fan. Sorry to all Sub only fans but dubs are simply my thing. My only hope now is that it gets picked up in the UK and gets dubbed. MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT T_T

So if any nice companies happen to purchase the series for a UK release I hope that they will Dub it. Not only that I was quite surprised as it can be partially placed in the Ouran niche and being that ouran was voted best anime 2009 I was hoping it would be a sure thing for a dub release.

Oh well live and hope!
 
Buy the subbed version and get a friend to watch it with you. Mute the volume and have them read the subtitles in character. I guarantee you'll enjoy the subbed version after that. ;)

The last dub commissioned by a UK company was Ghost in the Shell: Innocence by Manga I believe (Dreamworks originally released it in the US sans-dub). It's not something which is common any more, sadly. As a sub fan myself I could get fantastic re-watch value out of dubs as hilarious as Manga's classic ones. The Yanks just don't make 'em like that.

Having now seen that, at least I don't actually care that I didn't recognize it by name. ^^;

Shame for you that it's not getting a dub, though, I don't know what it would be like to be a dub fan and know that most of the shows I wanted wouldn't be getting one.
 
Go team dub! I have had to RAGE-sleep due to sub-only releases (The act of reading about a show getting licensed only to find out 2 seconds later that it is being released sub-only just before going to bed, thus causing little sleep to occur) multiple times recently.

YUA S2, He is my master, Hayate.... To name a few. Can't say I have really looked into Special A, but from the small bit I have noticed of it, it might be up my alley, although I shant be loosing sleep over it, at least until I realise that I do want to see it anyways. :p

UK-dub wise, we can only wish.

EDIT: Ok, so I just went and looked up Special A on MAL, looks like something I would watch indeed. Especially if the comedy is anywhere near that of Ouran... I shall now go and RAGE-sleep over it. Thanks for that....Grrrrrr. :evil:
 
I have to say I'm fine with sub only releases if it means we can have them quicker and cheaper. Sorry dub fans. I always give dubs a go if a series has one (I watch the first episode subbed, then dubbed to see if the voices sound right to me before choosing) but I tend to dislike them more often than not...
 
I will take it as it comes. But I do generally prefer dubs for when I am being lazy. And some shows seem to benefit from a good dub although many suffer from a bad one.

After reading the show description I decided to buy it anyway £16 from amazon market place was a bit cheaper than I found elsewhere.
 
I wasn't really intending a discussion about dub Vs. sub. We all know how opinion vs opinion goes into a spiralling mass of BLAH. I was just saying I was disappointed..... in a very overly emotional way XD!

S.A. I know isn't going to be up everyone's street unfortunately for me I absoloutely love the high school comedies that are more often than not very cheesy, gimmicky with cardboard characters and very little story if any that usually revolves around the unrequited love of the main characters. I guess admitting you have a problem is the first step to curing it.... My medicine.... more anime exactly like it XD!

Oh well whatever keeps me on the border or sanity.

I will carry on hoping...though there is little to hope for.

Just back to the dub vs sub thing (it's awfully hard to avoid the damn subject ¬_¬) I have no problem with subs, I just don't like buying something that is sub only. I just don't feel I am getting value for money. Bad thing is I can see myself actually buying the sub of S.A. just because I loved it that much. How sad am I? >.<

Indeed. It's no skin off my back if the only alternative is not to release a product due to its limited appeal.
However, are sub-only releases common over here as well as in R1? A series without a fanbase sufficiently sizeable for a dual-audio release is most likely to be too much of a niche to be popular in our small market.
 
I was quite surprised about Rozen Maiden getting a UK release. I went and brought it all in R1. I only bought Traumend a short while ago thinking it would never get a UK release then low and behold it gets a release. I started buying it when it was first released by Geneon.... it took a long time to finish collecting that series >.<

In some ways I am sad that anime is such a small market... though I do pester everyone I know to watch it.... I don't think they appreciate my enthusiasm... Anyways, yeah but, in other ways I am glad it hasn't gone to mainstream as I think that might be bad for what would get liscensed. I just get horrible images of poke... digi...mon things that will be merchandised and nothing else will get lisecensed. A horrible thought indeed... unless you are into cute little collectable characters.
 
Personally I watch both, though dub is easier for being able to also do other stuff and not watch subs like a hawk. :p Iiii wouldn't buy UK (VA) dub tbh. :p

I've never heard of that anime, even after actually seeing a title instead of an abbreviation. :p

Genius, sheer genius.

I still think Stephen Fry, Jeremy Clarkson and Brian Blessed should be universal narrators for everything. Including anime.
 
Now that was what i call a good dub, hah. Seriously compared to some you find nowadays, its a lot better. If anything, they at least seem to get into the role easily enough as i do find a lot of the dubs you can find now seem rather bland and boring, that would keep me watching it dubbed, even if it was parshly for the humour it adds.
