I loved Shin Godzilla and have zero experience with Ultraman. So here's hoping Shin makes for a good starting point and brings more of the Ultra series to the UK.

If you want an easy way to dip your toes into the Ultra franchise, try the official Tsuburaya YouTube channel. They have lots of episodes uploaded, and have been simulcasting new series with English subs in the last few years. I think the full run of Ultraman Z is still on there, which is a fun show with lots of great action scenes.

AFAIK only in the sense that Anno and Higuchi worked on both movies... and that they have that odd habit of putting Shin at the start of everything. I've been trying to stay spoiler-free for Shin Ultraman though.

Yes they are related, Anno is working on a shin universe, next is his Shin Kamen Rider reboot, (hoping he includes skyrider) he's talking about possible crossovers so keep watching the skies.
