Kittens. Because they grow into independant cats, not needy dogs. Dogs are fine an' all, but you can't leave them alone for five minutes.

Meh I'm not getting a pet.

It's for a scientific essay.

I will prove the scientific reason behind the cuteness these creatures have.

No matter how many puppies I have to dissect or Kittens I have to hug.

Do puppies actually do anything these days besides appear on toilet paper adverts, often with unfitting and oddly avuncular voices?

We seem to be undergoing a language transition replacing "inappropriate" with the previously seldom used "unfitting" - I blame those "while I play unfitting music" videos on YouChube.

Just thought I'd mention it.
 
I like both. Kittens are adorable, most breeds. Only a few breeds of puppies are cute. Cats grow up into awesome cat things, whereas dogs don't. They turn into these not-as-awesome dog things. That bark, drool and kill things everywhere.

So, as youngsters, I like both. When grown up, I only like cats.
 
I hate most cats, they go around acting like cocky little bastards and do whatever the hell the want 90% of the time. At least you can earn a dogs respect at some point, so I say puppy. More specifically a Springer or Basset puppy.
 
I would have to go with dogs...
Cats are cute and can look after themselves at times, but they can be arrogant and troublesome (especially clawing things like curtains).
Dogs can be more friendly and more respectable. They play with you - fetch, run, rub belly etc. - and they mostly listen to commands. They do need to be taken care of more, but sometimes the pluses outway the negatives.

I'm not gonna get either of them though... too much responsibility.
 
Kittens. They can be domestically trained to do more useful things than dogs* can, like go outside & walk themselves, or go poop somewhere by themselves, & cats are safer too.



*excluding guide dogs & police dogs obviously
