Sentai FIlmworks licenses Ro-Kyu-Bu, ef a tale of memories

ef got a license finally? Damn, that just took a while. Is it only Memories that is licensed or is Melodies licensed as well? Either way, take me monies.

Jesus, Clannad BDs might be more surprising than the Madoka announcement! I should probably get round to watching the DVDs to see if I want to upgrade (the PQ certainly looks worth it from the Japanese release, presuming it's going to be the same).

Also yay for anything based on Kyogoku Natsuhiko work.

Sentai has relinquished the Ro-Kyu-Bu home video rights.

For a second I thought I thought this was a necro but looking at your original post they have had the rights for almost a year.

Following the discussion in the link I can see how this would be a bad show to release at this particular time given the high profile nature of the Jerry Sandusky conviction.

Have to wonder why they bought the rights back though, afterall Sentai on their own accord would be sensible enough to not release this any time soon, unless perhaps the show is now totally untenable and they are doing a buyback to prevent somekind of legal backlash?

If Sentai had a problem with the show, they just wouldn't release it, and return the rights to Japan. The fact that the on line streams have remained available doesn't show this to be the case.

Speculation at Mania forums and elsewhere is that there is a problem in Japan. One idea is that the Japanese distributor has discovered extra liabilities and royalties owed, in particular perhaps down to licenses, copyrights and trademarks in the show, which would multiply the further it is distributed. By limiting physical distribution to Japan alone, they may be minimising their costs.

Might have saved themselves from a **** storm there.... Might be for the best

Well it certainly doesn't look like they could release it anytime soon in the US, so even if that is totally unreleated to the buyback they probably have saved some cash yes.
