Time-Traveller
Ever since getting over the issues with my first order for Vol. 4 of Gankutsuou, I've come to love SS. They're the only American store I know of that offer free worldwide shipping (often with 20% off also!), and they've sent all but a couple of my orders in sturdy boxes that prevent any damage. It's such a shame the pound falling has pretty much ruined the deals for UK bargain hunters like myself...

Today, after already receiving my last order, I received my second to last order. It contained Vol. 2-5 for The Law of Ueki. Like volumes 6-8, they all arrived with their original white cases, complete with all inlays (one even came with a manga preview booklet!) and mint DVDs. I now only need to get Vol. 9 to own every volume Geneon released before imploding.

I have had some issues, the most frequent being low qulity replacement cases, but I've had a lot more mint DVDs than I've had ones in poor condition, and the CS are always happy to send out replacements - even to the UK - for free. Looking around my room, I see 11 volumes of Fighting Spirit, 8 volumes of Nadia (plus the film), numerous Gundam SEED DVDs, 7 Gate Keepers volumes and lots of art boxes, all of which were ordered from SecondSpin. Prior to the pound falling it became a routine of mine to order from every 20% + free shipping sale, and the amount of DVDs I picked up from them shows that.

Anyone else used them a lot?

Why are you buying the Law of Ueki singles?

I'd place a lot of money on Funimation releasing the whole series in 4 boxsets whenever they get the go-ahead.

I picked up Vol. 1 off eBay awhile back. I liked it. I then noticed that SecondSpin had Vol. 2-8 for under $5 each (with 20% off) and couldn't resist.

If Funimation release the series in 2-4 box sets, which is doubtful when Ueki isn't that well known, then it won't be cheaper and won't please someone who likes collecting OOP DVDs. And if 4 box sets are released, I can just pick the last one and keep my singles.

I love Secondspin. They keep me sane when I realise I'm missing the final volume of an obscure Geneon B series and don't want to pay £50 from Amazon or Ebay sellers.

I have everything I want which is hard to get elsewhere wishlisted and watch like a hawk for rare things to come back into stock.

I used that code Aion put up before for 20% off and free shipping to test what they are like as some bits aren't that much cheaper than new. When the bits turned up a couple were obviously second hand, but I could swear some were brand new even with the second hand stickers on them.

So when they sent out the free shipping code last week I made a few more orders even though I was not saving on each item. I was still able to save around $10-15 postage on each package and and keep them under $25 which is about where the duty starts at the current exchange rates. Along with DVDs I ordered some CDs but as they say they don't ship the jewel cases unless they are special ones, I will have to see what they are like when they turn up.

SecondSpin do actually send some DVDs with the factory seal intact along the top and bottom. I find it happens most frequently if you order art boxes but I've also had a fair few random singles from various series arrive brand ne, including Fighting Spirit and Doki volumes.

If my memory serves me, I've only ever been truly unhappy with the condition of a couple of DVDs: volume 1 of Baki (badly scratched and in cheap case, with no inlay), a volume of Nadia (very poor condition ex-rental) and Vol. 4 of Gankutsuou (paid a lot for it and it turned up in a black case, with one side of the cover ripped). The good thing about SS is that, 9/10, they'll send a replacement if you say the DVD doesn't work or hasn't arrived. I've also had some in replacement cases and some without the inlays but nothing too serious.

There's a fair amount I'd like to order (as ever) once the new code goes up...however, the exchange rate is currently at '£1 = $1.45'. It's a pain because a lot of my series on DVD are going to remain incomplete if the pound doesn't go up in value before SS sell all the good stuff.

When you get your parcels do they get tax charged? Since the pound has fallen so much its getting harder to avoid that insane levy. Any chance you could confirm?

They often get tax charged. The way to get around it is to only order during their free shipping sales, and send things in small values (for example, placing several overs under say $20 each during those sales rather than lumping them together). I'm sure the international free shipping coupons will disappear if a lot of people start doing it but it's currently an excellent way to get some cheap old anime without being scalped by customs so enjoy it while it lasts.

They have a free international shipping promotion on at the moment. No 20% off, though. It's supposed to be ending today so I nabbed the Vampire Princess Miyu OVAs while they still had both discs in stock.

With the dollar hovering at around $1.40 to the pound my best advice is as has already been said don't go above about a $25 order at the moment (damn I am so unhappy as it used to be about $35 so many anime legend box set got through), take advantage of the free shipping when it is available as it won't matter how many separate orders you put in you just might not save anything on the price of the items.

heh lol i just come across SS myself while trying to find a cheaper Pioneer boxset of El-Hazard TMW

anyway though it still charges about $6.50, though hell of a lot better then pulling out £60 for amazon

For a number of hours the old free shipping code was active at the same time as the newly added 25% discount. I missed out on getting free shipping by a few hours. I would've ordered at least 7 DVDs.
