I go with the official translation. Kadokawa have insisted that both the novel and DVD release use Holo - and in fact she even signs her name as "Holo" in the second series. Horo is just a fansub translation gone out of control.

I go with the official translation.

I think that's probably fair, and what a lot of people do. I tend to go with whatever I thought the characters name was when I first heard of them, hence I still call the FFXII character "Balflear".
