We have just posted Paul Bates's review of <a href="http://www.animeuknews.net/viewreview.php?showreview=222">GANTZ #1</a> (courtesy of MVM).<ul class="menu">"GANTZ is an exciting, violent and thought provoking anime series; horror and gore fans will love the unlimited potential for severed limbs and weird monsters, but there is a lot more to this story than immediately meets the eye. GANTZ has a dark streak of cynical social commentary that engages the brain in a way that is immediately reminiscent of a vintage George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead). While the animation could have been better, this is a solid and intriguing debut for one of the most controversial horror anime to hit the UK in recent years."</ul><a href="http://www.animeuknews.net/viewreview.php?showreview=222">Read more...</a>

where you say 'but the animation could have been better' , from the trailers i have seen of Gantz, the animation looks top notch, extremely detailed and a lot better and different from most other anime. And its animated by GONZO too, so is it really not as good as one would expect :?

Gonzo have set themselves really high standards in the past though - Last Exile has the highest quality animation i've ever seen on a made-for-TV series!

i'm still surprised that they decided to make an adaptation of such a brutal and violent series. in the past Gonzo have stood for more mainstream and light-hearted stuff with plenty of humour and eye candy: the polar opposite of what Gantz seems to be. i'll have to track down the manga version now...

I am looking forward to getting this DVD as it something that sounds really good. Roll on the 17th (unless its been delayed...)

I also cant wait for this seire as it wont really fansubed much so i missed .
The 17th is going to be one busy day of watching dvds with all the stuff thats coming out.

Well, the GONZO "big three" from a couple of seasons ago of Basilisk, Speed Grapher and Trinity Blood, while not all of the highest quality, were generally less light than then general Gonzo mould, although that's not to say even Speed Grapher managed to be exceedingly dark.

The manga is a whole different world the the anime; the anime is very good, but the manga is something greater entirely (and, coincidently, even more depraved).
