As it reaches its conclusion, DNAngel proves to be a series that could never decide whether it wanted to be a light-hearted comedy, a heartfelt romance, or an action-packed fantasy, and in the end, it can’t be said that it did a very good job at being any of them. With all of its earlier promise erased by this laughably poor conclusion, the only thing that can be said is that it offered viewers plenty of eye candy, a few memorable musical themes, and not a great deal in the way of actual substance.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with eye candy...

Since the review cover picture was D N Angel 6 I was not entirely sure if the review was talking about volume 6 or 7.

But number 7 (with Daisuke on the front) was enjoyable. The volume ties up the Freedert story and I was surprised at how they did this. As to the overall ending - considering Dark and Krad are two halves of the same being, I don't think it could have ended any other way. It was nice to see Daisuke grow up and finally accept what it means to be a phantom theif, a nice change from what he said at the start: "But mum, I don't want to be a Phantom Theif!" My favourite scene was when Daisuke helps Satoshi choose to live.

I'm actually going to miss this series, its not up to the same level as some classic anime. With mischievous trouble makers like Phantom Thief Dark flying through the night sky it was good fun while it lasted...

Atleast it's more fun to think of things that way...

as much as i did love the series, the strange part is my favorite bit of the whole series was the "next time on d.n.angel" part of episode 24(or 25) where it just made you think the next episode was going to be a movie :D

Manga Girls you should put spoilers on some of what you wrote, coz not everyone reading this will know the outcome of Krad and Dark's true identity!!

I loved the ending of D.N.Angel; it had a real creep factor element to it and rounded the story off nicely.

BTW what's wrong with a bit of eye-candy?! Nothing in my book; guys have their half naked girls in harem anime and we girls have our *hotties* in anime such as this

To Miaka-Chan + other people reading this thread

I am really sorry about the storyline give away. Everytime I tried to put it in a spolier, for some reason it didn't work. I tried re-editing my post three times in the hope the spoiler thing would kick in but it didn't work. I seem to be inempt to modern technology. So please forgive me.

Miaka-Chan: Your comment about eye candy had me in stitches. In fairness, I think your comment is true, boys can't really complain...

And thankyou to the mystery person for putting the right cover up - Daisuke looks cool on that pic.

*MG goes off to figure out how to use that spoiler thing*

If you high-light the text, then press spoiler at the top of the page, it should work!
In an emergency, you could high-light the text and use white as a font colour ^__^

BTW I'm glad you agree with me about the eye-candy; I mean what is an anime without a good dose of *hotties*

I think the problem with eye candy is that it's often a shallow and fairly boring technique used to skew attention away from a mediocre to rubbish story. Of course there are somecases where both eye candy and quality storytelling come together, but I doubt DN Angel is it. 26 episodes worth of "hotties" just standing around seems quite boring to me!

The Hotties debate continues

To Miaka-Chan - First off thanks for your tip! And I'm glad you liked the ending too. That twist where Krad gets the upper hand on Dark- I didn't see that coming. PM me if you want to talk about DN Angel some time.

But, Miaka-Chan, I have to confess - I think having too many hotties can be... rather distracting. Take Ouran High Host Club for example. If only I could take my eyes away from Tamaki and Kyoya I would actually be able to read the subtitles. And I have seen other anime where the characters are pretty but I'm sitting there thinking, "Where's the plotline...?"

On a more general note, I thought D N Angel was rather good. I remember picking up volume 1 with Dark on the front and thinking, he looks interesting. If this makes me shallow then so be it, but if I hadn't watched the anime, I would never have read the books, and that would have been a real shame.

It can also be the saving grace of a mediocre story
I prefer my *hotties* in a good storyline, as it makes the anime more re-watchable! I love Fushigi Yuugi for the OTT angsty romance, the settings, the storyline as a whole, but I can watch it purely for Tamahome and Tasuki; so when the 2 (good story + hotties) is combined it makes the whole thing perfect ^__^
Now I love the characters from Saint Beast (the spin-ff of Tenshi no Shippo/Angel Tales) and within the realms of Angel Tales they have a good part to play, within the actual spin-off they're there for drooling purposes only, because the story is lame.
It's a bit like watching hentai for the storyline and unless you're watching Kite or Mezzo, we all know it's not the storyline you're watching it for (best analogy I could think of, or is it metaphor - god I'm bad at english  ).

So true ^__^
I've always openly admitted that certain anime appeal to me for very shallow reasons! Infact I have a bishounen top 10  I can honestly admit though, that each of the anime that said characters come from do at least have a good, if not fantastic, storyline.
