It came out a bit later than planned but here's our latest episode. Lewis really wanted to talk about Tokyo Godfathers so we decided to a special over the Chrtistmas / New Year period.

Hi Everybody,

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, Lewis and I review two anime written by bombing survivor Keiji Nakazawa; the first Barefoot Gen movie and Summer With Kuro.

I mention In This Corner Of The World in the intro of the podcast and sing it's praises, it's (especially the extended cut) a 10/10 film for me and I agree better than Barefoot Gen but it's too new to fit within the scope and remit of the podcast to review.

Quoting myself from another website "Actually (if you don’t already know) there were 2 versions of this film that were released. The first one was called In This Corner Of The World and ran 2 hrs 8 mins, the second one (which this is)-In This Corner (And Other Corners) Of The World runs 2 hrs 48 mins. The extra time adds a lot more to the development of the characters and story. The first version was dubbed into english but this version wasn’t (and probably never will be)." I found that Grave Of The Fireflies and Barefoot Gen are too unpleasant to watch-akin to watching Saving Private Ryan. I've been to the atomic bomb museum in Hiroshima so you don't have to tell me about the horrors of nuclear warfare.

Oh yes, I read it but I don't listen to podcasts (no offense) and I've had some extensive experience with this movie. BTW-have you ever heard of the Bataan Death March? It was as horrendous in it's own way as either Hiroshima or Nagasaki. I was in the US Navy many years ago and got see the route the march took as well as Nagasaki in addition to Hiroshima. I'm not calling you out, just mentioning my own experiences in the Philippines and Japan. I lived in the Philippines for 7 years and got to ask people who lived through the Japanese occupation of their country what they went through....! Some other good movies concerning WW2 in Japan are Chocchan's Story and Totto-The Little Girl At The Window both about Tetsuko Kuroyanagi.

None taken. I didn't think you we're calling me out, just not taking any notice of what I had written and telling me stuff that I had stated I already knew that's all.

Military history is another big hobby of mine and I have read a lot about the Bataan Death March, walking that route must have been an experience. My great uncle was a Japanese POW held in varous camps in South East Asia and made it home after the war but died a few years later as a direct result of how he had been treated in the camps.

Thanks for the movie tips 👍

Hi Everybody,

This time Lewis and I take a light hearted look at a couple of unconvincing horror OVAs from the 80's with reviews of Digital Devil Story - Megami Tensei and Yoma.
