Requiem From The Darkness series

Hovis!

Vampire Ninja
I was reading the review for the first volume of this series in the latest edition of Neo and though they gave it a very positive review, I was wondering if anyone else has seen it and what their final verdict on it was?

Would you recommend it?

It sounds fantastic but I'd like a bit more info before I commit (when it comes to animè & manga series I tend to be very careful before I start, simply because time and finances are all important). :D

Cheers in advance.

I watched the first volume of this last week and was thouroughly impressed with it. The series is shaping up to be a great supernatural horror where the true evil comes from the humans themselves. My first impression of it was that it was somewhat akin to Vampire Miyu where there is ne'er a happy ending in sight, as it were but rather a series of dark tales about people who have become the worst they can be and are purged by a team of people who travel the land to punish such people.

Certainly not to everyone's taste but a good dark horror.

Horrible! I hated the animation style; most of the time it portrayed everything like a negative, or everything was colourless - yuck!
The horror angle was interesting, but I couldn't overlook the horrid animation and couldn't bear to watch more than 2 episodes.
The characters were really ugly too, so nothing appealed to push me past the beginning.
I think appeal would be dependant on how much you rely on crsip animation, good character connection and whether poorly animated scenes give you a headache trying to perceive what is going on (it gave me a headache because I was trying to see through the fog of the animation and of course you can't do that. I kept wanting to clean it up  ).

^ Whereas I liked the different animation style and the character designs weren't as bad as some Ive seen (I looking at you Paranioa Agent), Im unsure about the story but I think they're all stand alone episodes.

Thanks for the feedback. They said in the review that the animation and art style wouldn't appeal to everyone (I could tell Miaka-chan was in love with it  :D ).

I'll probably take a risk with it later down the line (maybe when its in a sell or something) but the aspect of "...true evil comes from the humans themselves..." is probably what intrigues me most.

Thanks again.

You can have a face for that. :)

This was one of the first fansubbed shows I watched so my memory of it is a bit hazy to say the least, but reading the review in Neo has tempted me to grab it on DVD

When I saw it this show had the title '100 Stories'

All the episodes are single stories except the final two which link a few of the earliar stories together. I have the series on R1 and would throughly recommend it for those who want something a little different... it almost made me think of a more mature and deeper Vampire Princess Miyu in some ways. Anyway, highly recommended although it does get fairly unpleasent at times.

The series has its own rather quirky and black sense of humour too (mainly in the way Nagamimi, Ogin and Mataichi react to the lead) which means you can't always take some of it too seriously, a nice relief from most of the rather grim odd little tales it portrays.
