I recently started taking an interest in photography and collecting videogame/anime figures. This will hopefully be the first of many topics where I will photograph and review these figures as I acquire them. This topic is a nice excuse for me to write original content on my blog, a great chance for me to learn new things with photography and a nice chance for you guys to perhaps take a close look at a figure you may otherwise not have noticed.

The first figure to be in the spotlight is Kotobukiya's Rei Ayanami BMX Trick statue, and the link below will take you to the review, accompanied by a photo gallery below it. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the review, my photography and even what you personally think of the figure in question.

Review: Rei Ayanami BMX Trick Ver.

Good to see you back around the forums Nemphtis. Nice review anyhow, makes me wish I could afford to start collecting these things.

I love the eyes of this figure...

checked the other pics, and I think I love this figure.
I personally love the BMX and the way Rei's positioned on it.

I'm surprised people recognise me considering how populated this forum is, I guess my handsome avatars are just unforgettably sexy. There are a lot of cheap figures which are still quite nice to collect, trading arts are a great way to start out as they cost about £5-£8 for a box and look quite nice for display purposes on your computer table etc.

So the rumours were true. I don't understand those little bikes myself. If nothing else, Rei appears to be facing the wrong direction.

She's doing a 'trick' on it. She's standing on the back wheel and pulling the front of the BMX up to balance it on one wheel whilst stationary, I'm sure that trick has a name but I don't follow the BMX scene enough to know what that is. It's just begging for someone to say "You're doing it wrong." I guess. :]

I have reason to suspect that was just Zin5ki being droll again...

My Revy figure had one of those hard to remove clear plastic "underskirts" as well. It wasn't easy but I did manage to remove it (nudge nudge, wink wink). Hopefully, it's not actually a new fashion trend in Japan and I haven't significantly devalued my figure.

Excellent review, but I'm not a big fan of these more "out of character" pieces. I just can't see Rei being a BMX trickster somehow...

I'll echo Wildcard as well and say welcome back. I don't forget many of the older users who where about here ;p I like to think i have a darn good memory after all

On topic: Nice review i think, and i will say i've never actually seen that model of Rei before. Out of the bajillions there is of her, one with her doing a BMX trick wasn't what i would've expected. I personally wouldn't know where to start with statue/model reviews personally, but i do have my fair collection of them here at home.

I don't tend to collect as many now since i'm always rushing off to uni, but i will pick up the odd chibi style one. As such, i always have one of Kallen somewhere on my shelves where ever i am.

I agree, out of character merchandise is something I've always avoided with this BMX one being the exception. It was like two gifts in one for me since Rei is one of my favourite anime characters, and the BMX pose is what makes her unique among the rest of my collection.

It could be worse though, she seems more likely to do that than appear like this:

shudder..

I don't know, thinking about Evangelion's scenes, it feels more likely that Rei could be a mermaid considering all the crap she really is in the anime. Compare that to a happy-go-lucky girl who frequently goes down to skate parks to hang with Tony Hawk and the gang when she's not busy raping angels, the mermaid concept sounds a lot more plausible. ;]
