My absolute, absolute favourite Ghibli film was Howl's Moving Castle until...

I watched Kiki's Delivery Service

(Jiji the talking cat is wonderful. And he's sarcastic too!)

I'm sorry Howl - you can't compete...

My Mam is against anime and manga she thinks its all rude and violent. she almost took away my manga. pg and 12 dvds are the only ones she lets me buy. so if i want to watch somethibg 15+ i have to watch it on the computer when shes out. she still thinks i should watch pokemon.

sucks to be youngest.

As I said before, all of the Ghiblis are definately worth a watch. They're going so cheap nowadays that you'd be able to pick one up on the highstreet for under a tenner.

If you're looking for series, two of my favourite are Azumanga Daioh and Love Hina. Love Hina is a typical harem (1 guy lives with 5-odd girls), whereas Azumanga Daioh is a school-yard comedy that everybody MUST watch at least once.

Both of those series' DVDs' are PG and 12 so you should be able to get hold of them fine.

Also, if your mum is giving you a hard time about what people think of anime, you could always show her Grave of The Fireflies, which is a 12. It's a very moving war movie about a brother and sister in Japan during war-time, and it can often change people's perspective about anime being all porn and Pokemon.

Whats wrong with Anime, really... I think you should tell your mother that Anime was like that in the 80s, now its reduced a hell of a lot... Okay, maybe theres a bit of nudity, but they should overlook it and find out its got a great storyline and funny humour (in some animes)...

But don't watch Ghost in the Shell or she might seriously ban you from Anime all together...

And pokemon, really its now getting too boring, its always goes to city, make friends, team rocket come, fight team rocket, team rocket blasted off again, leave city. back to square 1 again...

Martial Art movie are kinda not my thing, so I can't recomend you whats good...

Chrono crusade is a great series, though... I like it because I love Demons and Angels.

Ok good martial arts movies available in the UK and are rated 12 or lower...

Hero (12)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (12)
Millionaires Express (12)
Miracles (PG)
Iron Monkey (12)
Wing Chun (12)
Gorgeous (PG) Cheesy romance but with some intense hand to hand combat.

...and some I'd recommend that are rated higher but are some of my favourites....

The Prodigal Son (18)
Police Story 1 and 2 (15)
Fearless (15)
Knockabout (15)
Young Master (15)
Mr Vampire (15)
Project A (15)
Unleashed (18) Though it's more focused on the drama.
Once Upon a Time in China Trilogy (15)

Not in the sub. The dub embellishments changed that story in important ways. Hint: watch the very ending, Gigi's last words in both dub & sub, and compare with Kiki's final expression.

Its not too bad, unlike the butchery that Laputa underwent where it was entirely rescripted and the pirates made out to be buffoons. The inclusion of only a dubtitle track meant that it couldn't be watched in sub mode either. Optimum fixed this and I have been sorely tempted to upgrade my version. Laputa is probably the finest adventure story told in anime and needs to be seen in the best version possible.
