So, out of all the Studio Ghibli films you have watched, rank them. Simples. I'll start off with my list:

Well, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is technically pre-Ghibli, but if I included it in the list it would probably be between Porco Rosso and Grave of the Fireflies.

This was actually really, really hard. Nausicaa and Whisper are very close (as are a lot of others) but I think the music as well as the sheer originality and sense of wonder Nausicaa's world inspires just edge it over the line. I'll probably start remembering things now and come back and re-order it completely in a few hours...

Without wishing to spoil things for anyone, it might be easier if you broadened the list to include pre-Ghibli Miyazaki & Takahata works - Nausicaa and Cagliostro both predate the founding of Ghibli.

Edit: Beaten. Just saw Joshawott's amendment.
 
Hmm. Nausicaa definitely belongs in the Ghibli stable (the fact that it's now released through Ghibli says as much) but I don't feel as though Cagliostro does. Even though it's quite a unique Lupin film, to my mind it still belongs in the sub-category "Lupin" rather than "Ghibli".
 
Cagliostro is probably a tricky one, right enough. While I'd agree it's probably not quite a Ghibli film, I think it's a Miyazaki film through and through.

Anything Miyazaki made after Mononoke is gash.

In terms of rough groupings it would be 3-6-3-3-3, with the biggest gaps between Cat Returns and Yamadas, and Pom Poko and Howl's.
