Quick Grammar Q

Of all the people on this website, TTGL Tard 2 has managed to annoy me with a sentence of his that touches upon a part of a grammar that has always caused me great pain: 'Who' or 'Whom'?

its about people whom end up in a game of sorts and have to get home but thats the bearly scratching the surface of the story its so good

Rather than over-thinking the subject/object aspects of understanding which word to use, I usually just do the 'he or him' test. Usually, it helps me AND prevents my brain from being overworked.

I changed the sentence to 'It's about him ending up in a game of sorts...' - so, does that mean whom is the correct word to use in that sentence?

For some reason, it's REALLY bothering me and I need someone to clear it up... ;________;

I *think* I can understand TTGL Tard's attempt at making the matter more confusing for me: 'he' works in the first half of the sentence and the 'whom' is linked with a verb tense... but the quote in the original post is still bugging me.

I thought it was 'whom' since changing the sentence to 'It's about he ending up in a game of sorts...' didn't work, but I have no clue and just want someone to explain this to me. :(

Do you have a similar issue with "too" and "to", by the way? I read the words in my head slowly (I suppose) and sometimes because certain parts are too long, like the "whom" in that sentence, I think its the other one. I've never thought about it before, but I think I put it down to the emphasis. I have no actual idea, but I think that is how my mind processes it.

No. It's easy to remember to say 'too' when, for example, saying 'You gave me too many!' and 'to' when saying something like 'Go to the shop now, you moronic bastard!'... Really, I think the who/whom thing is the only word usage issue I have, and a lot of people seem to struggle with it.

I don't mind getting it wrong on forum posts, but it annoys the hell out of when I make grammar mistakes I know not of in my reviews. When re-reading my GTO review the other day, I noticed I'd used who instead of whom... :/

I never read text in my head as if I was speaking the words, so that doesn't play a part in how I type what I type. I should try - it might help!

Ask ilmaestro. It was ilmaestro who explained it to Stu on Chat.

......

I feel ashamed; I was just starting to respect TTGL Tard 2 after previously having thought of him as an illiterate arsewipe from Uranus. To think that I could be trolled...

...I'm off to watch some more of DtB. (Re-watch, technically) Goodbye.

Hurting my brain! My initial thought is that "who" should be used. But I always second guess myself.
Looking online, most places seem to suggest using "who" for subjects, and "whom" for objects. Though another site mentions that "whom" is not used much nowadays since it sounds too formal and clumsy. I think I usually avoid whom due to the formal sound myself to be honest. <_<

As with the he/him stuff. For me I would have converted the sentence to "It's about a group of people, they end up in..." (ie they vs them). Though they/them isn't an example in the rules, but it works in my head. :p -If- that works, then "who" works. I think this is just one of those really annoying ones.

Hehe, this is like the lil' arguement I was having with Il and perception of a certain sentence he typed in chat. T'was fun.

BTW, I won it! :p

Well, this turned out to be a 'not so quick' grammar Q, didn't it?

Where be dem grammar narzis when you need them? Every forum should have at least one. It shows how dead this place truly is if we do not.

I need a teacher, and not the type who (idc! **** OFF, WHOM! ARSE) simply tells me to use commas wherever I feel like. The force is not strong with me, though the cock is undeniably powerful with me.
