Question for those who import Japanese BDs

For boxes it's usually a cardboard box and bubble wrap. I haven't ever had a damaged box but it's the luck of the draw with the post - you could use the courier shipping if you potentially wanted a little more protection, I guess.

They send out smaller things in plastic mailing bags but smother them with bubble wrap to keep them safe.

I guess I'm a bit late to give any actual advice, I can provide pics of the JP BDs though if you need any further convincing. ^^;

I'm a bit late here but please feel free to do so.

I'm so close to buying either Fate/Zero or Accel World, especially since Box 1 of F/Z is £199 @ Yesasia at the moment. I'm also very interested in buying Shinkai's new film and possibly Code Geass Akito the Exiled. If the Japanese releases are as nice as they sound then I'll probably cave in, especially since it's payday Friday :D

The waiting for packages is painful though, I bought Kingdom Hearts HD ReMix from Yesasia over 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting ;_;

Amazon Japan usually use a courier service for direct international shipments. I don't remember who they are currently using (I want to say DHL?) but the fees tend to be less obscene for the superior courier services, compared to our disgraceful national postal service. £8+20% is a reasonable estimate.

Sorry to revive this thread once again, but does anyone know who Amazon JP are currently using, or roughly what the current charge may be?
I'm buying Kara no Kyoukai, and it's either going to be from Amazon JP (which may or may not work out slightly cheaper, postage will definitely be quicker though), or Yesasia, whom I'm a little reluctant to use. I've had three orders with them, One of which was delivered in 3-4 weeks, one presumed lost since it's been over 5 weeks and I haven't received yet, and one which I assume is in transit. A bit of a mixed bag so far 0_0

It's currently 25900 yen on Amazon Japan without sales tax, or 28900 shipped (~£190 at this moment). So that's around £34 in import fees before handling fees. Just trying to get a rough idea here of what charges to expect.

I used to use Yes Asia a lot. The couple of times I contacted regarding a missing spent they said I had to wait x weeks before reporting, and it did indeed turn up eventually. The biggest problem, other than patience, was when they failed to get something I pre-ordered; I had to re-order one Dennou Coil from CDJ and pay the premium on postage and import.

DHL always carry my shipments from Amazon these days, regardless of which warehouse they ship from. I believe they still do use FedEx though, maybe? Possibly not for the UK, or possibly only for certain parts of the UK. Or something.

My last orders from Amazon always came via FedEx, but that was... woah, three years ago.
It stands out because it was a run of Comptiq and they kept trying to charge my import.
